Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Oct 13, 2014 2:19 pm Have finished our build and now trying to get driveway quotes and confused on the best method for the driveway. I am wanting a dark grey finish. Should I be asking for mixed through colour, thrown on top or sealed colour? which gives the best finish? Do all types need sealing? Any advice is appreciated. If any contacts for contractors in the Sutherland shire Sydney that would be great as I am having trouble getting callbacks and quotes.. Thanks Our thread. Anyone??? I would be going to have mix through colour as it will remain the same even with chips on concrete. Re: Driveway - mixed through colour, colour thrown on, seale 4Oct 14, 2014 11:21 am Thanks for the reply Gaggy. I thought the same thing but all concreters that have quote have said they don't like to do it as it looks faded and gets white patches. They are all pushing me towards sprayed on colour. I just driven by one that looks darker in colour and very matt and iit looks like its colour mixed I believe, I have just left a note in their mailbox so hopefully they come back to me with what it is. Anyone done mixed in that hasn't faded/gone white?? I am after a very dark grey look... Our thread. I have seen a few and they look great. But as I have not got myself so not sure if it will fade. Get few quotes by calling on phone and get ideas. will search online for concreters in my area and give them a call for the quote. Re: Driveway - mixed through colour, colour thrown on, seale 6Oct 14, 2014 2:58 pm After a few weeks frustration leaving voicemails and no replies, I got the list of the council of authorised crossover contractors and texted a heap (about 40)... have had a few come today and measure up so slowly making progress. Still a lot of conflicting advice on the best way to go. Have some addresses to inspect. Mixed through with a seal seems to be the best way they are advising but still a lot pushing spray paint, I think its easier and they all seem too busy! Our thread. How did you get the list. Wish I could get it for my council as well. Thanks We got coloured concrete and then they seal it after a couple days as when the concrete drys it goes heaps lighter. My driveway people said they rarely use powder to throw on as it fades really quick and doesn't last as long as the coloured concrete. This is my driveway which is charcoal or as close as I could get the monument (same as our roof colour). Do you mind sharing how much you paid and which company you used? Our council does not allow coloured driveway past the foothpath. It should be natural concrete colour. Would ask you about the projector in media room as well which I saw in your another post Re: Driveway - mixed through colour, colour thrown on, seale 11Oct 15, 2014 9:55 pm MyH1Login What about aggregate, have you considered? That will never lose colour Yes, they also do not loose colour. I would select the coloured concrete out of two. They only service the central coast and hunter. That's a shame they don't let you run the colour all the way to the road....bloody council and there rules and regulations. It was $7800. Could of got cheaper but got the widest driveway as possible. I hate when you see driveways and you can barely fit 2 cars on there. They only service the central coast and hunter. Re: Driveway - mixed through colour, colour thrown on, seale 14Oct 18, 2014 12:35 pm Thanks Pennykate, that's a good price for 80sqm I'm getting quoted 10-12k. Seems they are all very busy in our area at the moment. Went to parchem display today and the look I am after is called covacrete nxtgen, it is a spray on resurface coating. Has anyone used this?? Now to try and get quotes on a plain drive and then a coating. Our thread. Otherwise we would of have to wait 5 weeks!! My sister used something similar to covacrete nxtgen and had no issues....other than there was black powder everywhere. Re: Driveway - mixed through colour, colour thrown on, seale 16Nov 02, 2014 7:38 am Gee looks like concreters are great at marketing hype. So they say that colour through concrete fades less than dust on? How can that be? Do they say that the colour beneath keeps seeping up to keep the colour? I don't think so it's a con. They just want to charge you more for no extra work. Dust on done properly will fade the same as colour through. If chipped however colour through will be "less" noticeable. Re: Driveway - mixed through colour, colour thrown on, seale 17Nov 02, 2014 2:10 pm We just had a rather annoying conversation with our SS about the driveway. We're just starting the build, so we don't need to make decisions until the very end, but this is our situation. Our 'package' included 40m2 of coloured through concrete. We chose 'Monument' to match our roof, garage door and front door (bricks are cotton). But the SS says in the meeting that they can't actually mix it to a monument colour and that there are only 3 main colours the driveway concrete can be (and basically the sales team does't know what they're talking about.) Then he says that just coloured through won't be any good and will start to fade and go patchy, so we need to get it colour sealed as well (and that this will need to be re-done about every 12 months). It's annoying when you get mixed messages within the same company. There is nothing in the various codes and standards that puts this requirement on the builder to do. I think that is what you are asking.
