We're getting an alfresco slab poured which will be not under cover. The area will be the same height as the garage - 80mm below the floor of the house. The sills for the alfresco doors are not rebated as we don't mind having a bit of a sill to keep the dirt out of the house.
We've been told there is a slight slope away from the house for the slab...
We want to eventually use recycled bricks for paving (and just use the bare concrete at first). I believe bricks tend to be 76mm high and since we know the 80mm is pretty much one course of bricks... will this be OK or will we need to find some old recycled pavers and hope to get a similar look?
I assume we would put drainage channels outside of each of the walls in the alfresco space to help with drainage. Oh and the house is bearer and joist construction (just the garage and alfresco area are really on a slab)
So questions are:
- can we lay them direct onto the concrete slab? (or do we need screed / sand base)
should we 'mortar' them in somehow?
is the height going to be OK or are we inviting water into the house?
Is there another product we can use (not recycled bricks) that can achieve the same look without costing us more
TIA
