Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Dec 10, 2013 2:38 pm To cut a long story short we've got roughly 70 m2 of patio to pave (and perhaps another 15-20m2 of path to lay around the alfresco but that is optional) and we're looking into a variety of options. Edit: meant to put a diagram of the area in here: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I'm not at all keen on standard concrete as it will get too hot with the patio itself being NNW facing, so up until now we were looking at natural stone pavers of some description (and worrying that it would cost a bomb - well into 5 figures - to get the patio area paved in even mid-grade natural stone pavers). I've recently come across liquid limestone and am trying to weigh up whether it will be at least as cost effective as paving (or preferably more so) and how the finished product looks and performs, so I was wondering if there is anyone out there on H1 who is in VIC (near or in Melbourne) and has had liquid limestone poured for a patio lately? I'm trying to get a rough indication as to the cost involved (per m2) and whether the finished result met their expectations to see if liquid limestone is even worth considering from a cost perspective before I start bothering companies that offer liquid limestone with getting quotes, as most of the companies I've found seem to be in the east or south of Melbourne, which is a fair way away (I'd feel bad about dragging them out here for a quote if the cost is likely to be completely out of our budget). Any feedback on companies themselves would also be very much appreciated. Some people apparently have nothing better to do than comment on other people's sigs. Re: Liquid limestone vs stone pavers for patio paving (VIC)? 2Dec 11, 2013 9:31 pm I'm not in Vic but I can tell you about liquid limestone. It never gets really hot underfoot even in a heatwave, which is great, no weeds or ants, but the drawbacks are that as it is a natural product it can stain. We had ours sealed, but it did not prevent discolouration in winter from leaching of pot plants and water laying around (sometimes the rain here comes down faster than the soakwells can handle- or the drains get clogged with leaves). At the start of every summer we had to use a high pressure hose to clean off the greenish and occasionally charcoal-coloured potting mix stains. Generally I didn't like the overall appearance after 8 years of use, in hindsight I should have gone for reconstituted limestone paving (which does not stain due to the concrete content). I suppose it depends on what you can tolerate: weeds, ants, heat, or stains and a bit shabby after a few years... Thanks for the insights, that makes perfect sense, and yeah, I will be leaning on the experience of the excavator operator entirely. 6 16036 Firstly the ableflex that has been installed needs (manufactures specification) a sealant cap over the top, preventing water draining down between the slab and the… 3 7712 If your patio is going to be 35 sqm then that's going to need Council Approval.
