Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Oct 16, 2013 2:21 am Hi guys, I was looking at getting advice on a driveway and path for my new home. I have been looking at concrete, coloured concrete and poured limestone. Can anyone help with what would be the best choice? I have approx 100sqm of driveway, etc and approx 100sqm out the back (depending on price). I am in the south area of Perth, and my house will be ready around January 2014. Much appreciated. Re: Poured limestone vs concrete 2Oct 16, 2013 10:52 am I love the look of poured limestone but since it is a natural product it will stain. We didn't have it on a driveway but around pergola/spa/bbq area & garden paths of our previous house. I would not chose it for a driveway, I shudder to think of cars leaking oil on to it! It discoloured in winter (soil and leaves dropping onto it) and needed a high pressure wash to ready it for summer. I haven't kept many pics but this one shows a bit of the edge of it and you can see the winter discolouration (snapped early spring). Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Have you seen exposed aggregate, I think it is more expensive but looks great and you can chose your mix of colours... The surface has been washed back to expose the stones and you can request a slightly smoother or rougher (more exposed) finish. Because the surface is stone it's very hard wearing and with the different coloured stones, tends not to show up the dirt as much. Coloured concrete looks good in the darker colours and quite realistic with the "grout lines" cut in. I would avoid lighter colours in it though as they tend to look grubby. Hope this helps. Re: Poured limestone vs concrete 3Oct 18, 2013 2:23 am Thanks so much... I was thinking a natural product so it wouldn't stain so much. Exposed agg is twice the price, so looks like coloured concrete will be the choice... Wouldn't a darker colour fade faster and also be hot to stand on bare feet? Re: Poured limestone vs concrete 4Oct 18, 2013 10:00 am The people across the road from us have poured limestone. It's been down almost 3 years and yes it was used for their driveway as well. it still looks fab. perhaps they sealed it though. I don't know. Re: Poured limestone vs concrete 5Oct 18, 2013 10:43 am As far as darker colours go, yes hot under foot but tends to hide dirt. I'm not sure about fading but then it should fade evenly and looking at it every day you probably wouldn't notice for years. You could ask for a quote on sealing the driveway or DIY or invest in a gurney? The only thing is I have no idea if oil stains would come off without using a chemical. The limestone is brilliant for bare feet, it becomes very slightly warm in a heatwave whereas the concrete would be intolerable. Hello needing some advice. I was about to build my Alfresco and needed a new slab and remove exisiting slab as its not standard. So they start to excavate and jackhammer… 0 10687 To my understanding early saw cuts are to control shrinkage cracks, so doing them now would be pointless. Control joints may reduce ugly cracking during periods of soil… 3 9858 |
