Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Sep 09, 2013 11:26 pm Great forum here, loads of helpful info. I've got a couple of questions regarding concrete sealers and expansion joins that im hoping to get some help with. Basically we had about 90m2 of coloured concrete laid around our house, both sides and back. I have noticed that there seems to be rubber expansions joins in some parts but possibly not all. When I say possibly not all I mean I can't see them everywhere so they may be a little covered by concrete. So my questions are: Would this be a concern if rubber expansion has not been used around the full perimeter of my home? If so what are the concerns? And with regards to colour concrete seal I've read so much info and its all so confusing around what is the most effective to get. I'm after something that can rejuvenate the colour of my concrete as it has been effected by weather a little and give it a somewhat wet look that is easy enough to re-apply when necessary every 2-3 years if required. Thanks to all that can provide me some info Re: Concrete I had laid two years ago 3Sep 10, 2013 11:26 pm I'm in the process of laying over 350 sqm of concrete and every concreter that has come out have said that they will put in abflex around the entire house as it will deal with movement and reduce the potential for cracks. the company i have hired to lay concrete will be doing it around the entire house and any adjoining footings etc. Re: Concrete I had laid two years ago 4Sep 14, 2013 6:49 pm Chris in reference for maintaining your concrete colour the best way to do that is with a concrete stain. A coloured sealer will peel and flake with hydrostatic movement in your new slab and it really should be completely removed when needing to maintain. Newlook International Australia have a range of colour stains that can be applied and easily maintained which is normally just the sealing element as that protects the stain from UV and Abrasion www.getnewlook.com.au Regards Re: Concrete I had laid two years ago 5Sep 14, 2013 7:30 pm Getjason Chris in reference for maintaining your concrete colour the best way to do that is with a concrete stain. When our driveway was poured the concreter convinced me to stick with plain concrete (because 1.5 m needed to be plain as a Council requirement and he thought two tone would not look good). But I am regretting the light coloured plain concrete for the bulk of the driveway and want to stain it a dark grey. So thanks - I will look into this. Has anyone used new look? For memory they didn't have any installers on their site listed here in Vic...any advice? Re: Concrete I had laid two years ago 7Sep 23, 2013 8:37 pm Whereabouts are you located in Vic ? As for mixed messages its the only true maintainable concrete colour system on the market in Australia , all the rest are topical systems or coloured sealers. feel free to PM me Re: Concrete I had laid two years ago 8Sep 24, 2013 9:50 am Getjason Whereabouts are you located in Vic ? You can go from colour to colour with no need to strip back before re-coating. So far my options are: As Described above from getnewlook and use a colour stain then clear seal Or A wet seal that will give me the darker brown I'm after but the down side is its a topical seal which means it has to be striped backed before re-coating on the future. Any thoughts or comments are welcome guys Joe, it depends on your certifier but we are noticing the ones we deal with are really cracking down.
