Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Jul 18, 2013 11:49 am Hi, we are almost at the end of home build and putting on the driveway very soon (next week). The concreter suggested the portico part to be on the same design as well instead only grey concrete. We are thinking to put tiles later on (not really into decking) Any thought or advise? Will tile looks better or stamped concrete will give you more flowed design? Anyone doing similar thing (same material on driveway and portico)? Photos would be great. Thank you.. Re: Portico and Driveway - stamped concrete? 2Jul 18, 2013 10:57 pm I just googled stamped concrete because I've never heard of it before,I thought it looked great and if I was doing it I would go with it through out rather than have a separate area of tiles. Re: Portico and Driveway - stamped concrete? 3Jul 19, 2013 4:09 pm Thanks Fiona, that's what I thought too. Re: Portico and Driveway - stamped concrete? 4Jul 19, 2013 6:33 pm I just did the same: Looked it up, because I had no idea what it was, and I have to say it does look good. What I'd be worried about down the path (excuse the pun), would be fading and general wear and tear. How will it look down the line when feet has been shuffling over it, bikes has fallen on it and so on. I'm trying to say that even if you can make it look like, say, granite or something, it's still just concrete and will wear like concrete. Edit. I think I should mention I like concrete. My next house will be mostly concrete (and insulation). Re: Portico and Driveway - stamped concrete? 5Jul 19, 2013 7:25 pm Hi, Has stamped concrete in our previous house. The colour comes from oxide which imbeds into concrete. Yes it does fade over time (as stencil does also). To keep looking good, it needs to be sealed every 2? years. Got a life, just can't find it! Re: Portico and Driveway - stamped concrete? 6Jul 19, 2013 11:52 pm Thank you so much for everyone's info and feedback! Does anybody who I can contact to adjust the portico on the ground to relevel the portico and roof? 1 830 To my understanding early saw cuts are to control shrinkage cracks, so doing them now would be pointless. Control joints may reduce ugly cracking during periods of soil… 3 9830 Hi all I need a guidance on how far I need to space expansion joints in the concrete driveway and its type (keyway/foam.) Contraction joints are at 3m max for a 125 slab. Thanks 0 10926 |
