Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Mar 26, 2013 12:49 pm Hi We built 18 months ago and had a tiled alfresco done. We are know wanting to extent the slab and have the tiles ripped up so its all looks the same. BUT a few concretors have came out and said we can have coloured concrete but the existing slab will need to be painted the same colour - we cant have a thin layer of coloured concrete as it will crack easily. My question is - has anyone else done this? the concreters have all said this will look good, but hubby isnt convinced. does anyone have pictures of coloured concrete next to a painted concrete slab? You may need to give this some thought but it would be better than having to maintain a colour because you know that once painted it will need to be kept up every few years. Acid washing won't get the adhesive off and if it isn't entirely removed the finish will show through. Just a thought! Where you are coming from is where you are going to... TIA Concrete Colour staining is the way to go , wont peel and flake and looks totally natural looking .. DIY versions like Smartcolour are the best and cheapest . www.getnewlook.com.au Re: painted concrete? would you? 6May 04, 2013 5:41 pm Sounds like something we did a while back. You'd want to grind the adhesive off the floor properly, an acid etch definitely wont remove the tiling adhesive. We tried one of those thin concrete toppers, but like you said, they are no good. They just dont stand up to the wear and tear. Dont think you will ever get the colours matched of a coloured concrete slab matched to a sealer on another slab, for one the gloss and finishes will make them look different.
