Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Jan 16, 2013 9:21 am Hi Everyone, We are new to this site and made the mistake of Pm'ing a couple of people that advised to ask on the forum instead of via PM so here goes! We love polished concrete for the looks and practicality (from what we've seen so far) and we just wanted some hints/tips on what to look for or avoid in a contractor, what techniques are more risky etc than others for cracks. Is that all that can really go wrong? Also can you get the outside areas smoothed a bit so its not so sharp? We have seen a few friends places that are very rough, would hurt the kids knees if they came off their scooters etc Do people commonly have it in the bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, living areas? Thankyou in advance! Re: Building house South of Mandurah Thinking Polished Concr 2Jan 16, 2013 10:45 am Ok so I'm a little confused Polished concrete on the inside of a house exposed aggregate on the outside for driveways and patios etc. Polished concrete or exposed aggregate? If I read this right? exposed aggregate = is rough and you can have this honed or ground down to remove the rough bits. Cheese grater for the kids or smooth ish for the safety angle. There are many contractors to do either, exposed aggregate and swap tradies to have 'honed' aggregate. Or you choose the same contractor for both Placement and honing and that is the best option as if they have any problems you only have to deal with the one contractor. Same for polished concrete. If you like you could PM me if you would like more details. Or ask more questions and see what answers pop up. Curing the concrete is the best way to try and reduce cracks. Curing with a protective cover of plastic. That then saves dirt pickup or 'staining' during the building process. Though i would suggest that you do the build and then do the driveway, otherwise the driveway will be used as a lay down area for all the trades that come along during the construction phase Best wishes, onc Where you are coming from is where you are going to...
