Thanks I sealed the floor of the garage on the latest house and was glad I did. It improved the look and has made it a lot easier to keep clean. I just used a basic floor paint which did a reasonable job. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: Garage floor sealing 6Dec 20, 2012 2:55 pm I'm liking the look of this finish. The company has a number of different colours and textures too. Seems to have some good reviews too, haven;t seen it in real life. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXHKkJEAv8c Re: Garage floor sealing 7Dec 21, 2012 12:09 am In our first build in 2005 we did the garage floor with a paint product and within a couple of months it had all lifted where the car tyres sat and did not look good. When the concreter was doing the driveway of our current home we asked him what he recommended for the garage floor. His advice was to get a tin of clear sealer and a tin of powder the same colour as the driveway, mix them together and roll it on. It cost $185 and hubby did three coats and there is enough left to do two more coats when the need arises. He also used the mix to paint the hot water slab and the tank stand. A few dirty marks and some blown in dust but still looks OK. Where it meets the coloured concrete of the driveway and blends in. It should have read a tin of clear sealer with a tin of liquid tint the same colour as the powder in the colour through concrete. The colour we used is Lychee and produced by this company. They also have a visualizer to help with colour choice. http://www.concretecoloursystems.com.au ... ncrete.pdf http://www.concretecoloursystems.com.au ... ochure.pdf http://www.concretecoloursystems.com.au/ Regards, Grumbles Re: Garage floor sealing 11Dec 23, 2012 9:44 am I bought the DyMark garage floor sealer (2 part epoxy) after some research on this forum. $200 at bunnings. I hope to apply it in the next couple of days. Re: Garage floor sealing 12Dec 26, 2012 9:58 am We acid etched floor first 3 times, then well rinsed to remove all contamination and dust. Then filled any cracks/holes with an epoxy filler. Then did 3 coats of Dulux Durebild STE. Looks like a factory floor. Not a cheap product. Has now been down for several years with heavy vehicle traffic, solvent spillage, and still looks great (after a clean) and no signs of lifting. It does scratch if abused, and yellows with UV light, so don't extend outside the line of the garage door if exposed to lots of sunlight. Overall very happy, and glad we did it, so concrete dust doesn't get walked through the house. Re: Garage floor sealing 13Dec 26, 2012 6:15 pm I started trying to use the DyMark garage floor covering a few days ago, its a lot of hard work. The floor had mortar, glue and other random junk on it so that had to be removed. Mainly with a scraper/wire brush since I don't have power tools for this. It then had a lot of little holes and gaps between the concrete and the skirting board so I've sealed that. Now I've done the first step which is to "etch" the floor, and attempted to clean it off. Unfortunately I need to wait around 72hours before I apply the paint now, to ensure the moisture is gone from the concrete Also the decorative chips have to be spread when the paint is wet, so a little nervous about getting the split right. Finally you can't drive on it for 7 days after putting it down, so I've moved the car out of the garage for a while. Hopefully this turns out well... Re: Garage floor sealing 15Jan 04, 2013 1:40 pm How much time/money do you want to spend? I spent: $199 for dymark sealer $23 for 2 paint rollers (only needed 1). $10 for paint roller Borrowed extension pole for above paint roller (free) Paint brushes $5 Bucket $3 Borrowed wire brush & scrapers, 2*silicon sealant tubes @ $7, and borrowed gun to put silicon down to seal the gaps. Everything that the epoxy touches it sticks to / ruins, so ruined some shoes 3 man-days of effort, and a 3 day gap after using the etch. And a 7-10 day gap before driving on it. So all up <$300 but it looks good, I should post some pictures Its a lot of work and epoxy ruined the bucket I used along with everything it touches, so be careful. Polished concrete would probably be $4000 for a 36sqm garage or similar. Re: Garage floor sealing 20Jan 05, 2013 9:34 am Not to be confused with polished concrete, which we don't use a topical sealer either way. Honed is less grinding but the surface is hardened, dustfree and stain resistant.
