Honed is less grinding but the surface is hardened, dustfree and stain resistant.

Ah right, $1500 is less than I expected for a stain-resistant surface

The prep is the key and he spent the weekend prior cleaning and etching (hydrochloric acid) the floor. Fortunately our floor was only used as storage and parking my car so no oil residue, etc... to clean up. There was some paint, glue, etc... from the builders, but that came off with the pressure washer prior to etching. We thinned our fist coat to use as a primer, then a base coat (Colour is Wombat), followed by flakes and then 2 coats of polyurethane. The flakes give it a slight slip resistance. Since it's only used as a garage this will only need swept and moped (when required, but my husband is OCD so probably often) with no further maintenance. If it was used as a working garage it may need a re-coat of poly depending on the abuse, but that would be years away. My husband said the 2nd coat of poly is the 'sacrificial coat'. The benefit of aliphatic poly is if you need to re-coat all you do is sand, solvent wipe and coat. It's also very resistant to chemicals, stains, UV and retains its high gloss. Post cleaning & etching. It wasn't a nice feeling as we went from smooth concrete to feeling like rough sandpaper. It's got a strong odor so we completely sealed the door going into the house. http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i202/bigjon_72/IMG_2758_zps8n1denzi.jpg Primer applied http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i202/bigjon_72/IMG_2763_zpselsyrhqa.jpg Base coat going down http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i202/bigjon_72/IMG_2769_zpsha9qknuh.jpg Final product http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i202/bigjon_72/IMG_2787_zpsr7i3k968.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i202/bigjon_72/IMG_2788_zpswxljrbfd.jpg Wow that's a top notch finish right there!
