One came with his laser to measure because he noticed a hump in the middle of the slab. 22.5m2 alfresco slab, worst spots are 25mm too high. Also fall goes to house not away. Steps are cracking and not regulation. Tiles were supposed to be flush with sliding door but slab got poured too high. Have had advise to break it up and re pour the slab. Scaryfing and grinding will take way too long and cost too much. The builder is taking us to VCAT because he wants his last 5%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Work that one out. Does $8,000 sound right for skip, removal and new slab via pump (no access anymore)? Re: Left with uneven alfresco slab for new house 2Jan 04, 2013 12:47 am How did you go? I doubt that anything will change, we owe him money but with our report and defects he owes us more than double that now. Just a waste of time and money! When this is over ( don't know how much VCAT is going to cost) we will get it cut into squares and jack hammered off. Thanks. Re: Left with uneven alfresco slab for new house 6Mar 11, 2013 9:51 pm Went to mediation at VCAT, builder wanted his last 5%, we held it back because some things weren't finished and defects not fixed. We had to hire a lawyer & barrister to defend ourselves ($6,000 +) and the result was 0-0. The builder walks away and we are left to fix the slab and other defects. I am so happy over this result, I just wanted the builder to p*** off . Papers were drawn to release him from any further liability. It cracks me up, you can pinch a picnic bar from the 7 Eleven and get arrested but tradies and builders owe work and money, nothing!
