Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Oct 09, 2012 6:17 pm Hi all. I have an expansion joint around our pool where the concrete paving meets the coping.(see Pics attached) What would be the best product and method to fill the expansion gap? The rubber seen in the pic peels off around 10mm in depth, so the gap I need to fill will be approx 10mm wide by 10mm deep. I have heard that Sikaflex make a good product for this however I am a bit worried that with the rough surface on the concrete paving I will end up making a horrible mess. Also Picking the right color is a bit tricky as the color charts I have found are way too small to make a good judgement. I have attached 3 pics so you can see what I mean! If you are concerned about making a mess use masking tape either side of the joint. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: Advise on expansion joint around pool 3Oct 09, 2012 10:03 pm Thanks for the tip. Do you know if the self leveling sealant is suitable for around pools - as in chemicals etc.? I thought about using masking tape, however the concrete paving is exposed aggregate and relatively rough, I don't think the tape would stick and there would be gaps for the sealant to sneak under. Re: Advise on expansion joint around pool 4Oct 11, 2012 7:51 pm The sealant should be OK for the chemicals in the water as they are diluted. The masking tape is only to stop spills onto the concrete. With self levellling sealant the trick is to pour it slowly and stop before it gets to the level of the bottom of the aggregate. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: Advise on expansion joint around pool 5Oct 22, 2012 12:14 am I would use a poly urethane like pu 40, which should be the same stuff used to glue your headers down it comes in several colours and is applied with a caulking gun. If your in perth you can get it from Parchem in Belmont. Bonita Stone Paving Products http://www.bonitastone.com.au Re: Advise on expansion joint around pool 6Oct 24, 2012 12:14 am PU 40 wont handle the Chlorine .... just posted on same forum use Chemproof CR from Parchem Sika self levelling forget it for DIY dude , you will need to prime with that stuff anyway , if your worried get your pool builder guy in Regards Jason Re: Advise on expansion joint around pool 7Nov 03, 2012 12:21 pm I see you have a cover. Not sure where you are - but are you happy with it - ie do you think you needed it - AND did you also get a roller ? Just an observation from a non-expert - are you meant to fill it (the gap) and can the guys who did the pool/cement advise ? They must get that question all the time ? Thanks again Simeon for being so elaborate. Appreciate it. Its gives us a very idea. Kind Regards 4 3657 To my understanding early saw cuts are to control shrinkage cracks, so doing them now would be pointless. Control joints may reduce ugly cracking during periods of soil… 3 9832 Hi all I need a guidance on how far I need to space expansion joints in the concrete driveway and its type (keyway/foam.) Contraction joints are at 3m max for a 125 slab. Thanks 0 10929 |
