Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Mar 28, 2008 5:04 pm I'm considering (notice I don't say we're considering...) an unsealed driveway instead of concreted. Mebe the landscaper person can take care of it as part of our $6000 landscaping package, as I postulate (perhaps wrongly...?) that unsealed driveways with gravel are cheaper than sealed driveways....
Whatcha think? Fiona Re: Unsealed Driveway 2Mar 28, 2008 5:30 pm I hope ,so 'cause that's what we're planning too, for 2 reasons..
- hoping to save some money - and I prefer the look of gravel We will already have a long sealed driveway up to the house, so I'm only talking about the area directly in front of the house. 'chelle We have a hand-over date...15/10...but I won't hold my breath! http://people-in-glass-houses.blogspot.com/ Re: Unsealed Driveway 4Mar 28, 2008 6:03 pm nzfiona I'm considering (notice I don't say we're considering...) an unsealed driveway instead of concreted. Whatcha think? Fiona I think there is something in our covenants which states a driveway in our estate has to be concrete and either stenciled, coloured or exposed aggregrate or paved Correct me if I am wrong. Re: Unsealed Driveway 5Mar 28, 2008 6:56 pm Be carefull with the stone size and sharpness.
Small stones get carried into the house by boots, and sharp ones - well I almost fall over everytime I hop out a friends place on the needle sharp stones at their place after I've been surfing and I donlt have shoes on. Same applies when you go out to get something out of the car that you have not put back in the garage yet. I like gravel driveways - as it softens the look and makes it more natural. Steve Re: Unsealed Driveway 6Mar 28, 2008 8:33 pm There is a little maintance with gravel driveways as you will need to 'replenish' them occasionally. Steve has detailed the problems with them which will be worse if on an incline. Nah, Rel, you're right about the covenants of the estate, but I'm thinking of seeing if we could do this somehow....hmmm....not sure. Considering some of the things people have done that are against the convenants, I would think this would be the least of their worries! Again, hmmm.... Fiona To my understanding early saw cuts are to control shrinkage cracks, so doing them now would be pointless. Control joints may reduce ugly cracking during periods of soil… 3 9863 Hi all I need a guidance on how far I need to space expansion joints in the concrete driveway and its type (keyway/foam.) Contraction joints are at 3m max for a 125 slab. Thanks 0 10948 |
