Hi,
I was just watching a TV reno show and on it they used a crushed granite and concrete mix. Apparently then you put water on it, bed it in and it sets. But in the 'after' video, it seemed like there was loose granite on the top. Does anyone know if crushed granite sets hard or not?
We have been looking at getting a huge part of our front yard (172 square metres!) concreted and it's going to be quite expensive, even if we do it ourselves. I'm only after a dark grey concrete colour (not a huge fan of aggregate although we did find a really nice one but it cost a bomb and I don't want a natural concrete colour) and the plan is to put a pattern near the front door, but can you do this with crushed granite?
I found a website for what is called a "lilydale toppings" driveway when googling for crushed granite, but is this the same thing? What with wanting the pattern on the concrete, we want a hard surface like concrete - on the lilydale topping website it says you have to regularly rake it (!) and a drive that is low maintenance.
To make matters worse, there is an exisiting slab about 150mm thick which sits 100mm below the ground and there are currently pavers on top.
Thanks!
