Didn't think of it's a finished product readily available off the shelf. Rang up a plumbing supplier and they know straightway what I'm after, apparently it's called finishing collar, available with a crate top or screw trap. About $20 each. Very convenient, but not in my case, because both the crate top and screw trap are already there, I just need the concrete bits. From what I can see, will need to dig around the existing fitting, cut the top off, install coupling and then the new finishing collar. Sounds like a lot of work for a simple addition. Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Grab a hose, insert it at the top of the inlet/down pipe and turn the water on and see where the water is escaping from.
