Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Jul 23, 2012 8:33 pm Hello all I joined to specifically ask a question about the Australian product Marcmove by Calmarc. I am an American who is currently in Ceylon (where I was born). My in law's house (4 years old) has a concrete terrace that sorely needs cleaning / stain removal. I am unfamiliar with the local firms and am having trouble locating a cleaner specifically formulated for concrete cleaning. Soo far I have been advised by the local chemical retail shops that I should try 35% Hydrochloric Acid. I am ambivalent of using HCL because I don't know how deep into the concrete it will penetrate and whether it will effect the rebar. After some googling I found a local firm that sells a product called Marcmove by Australian firm Calmarc. The product is purported to remove stains from concrete. I would like to know just how popular and effective this product is in doing what it claims . "MARCMOVE is suitable for removing: Mineral oils and greases from concrete or metal. Most adhesives and some forms of coatings. Clean up surface residue after using paint strippers. Removal of acrylic or PVA coatings and sealers. Removal of graffiti. Its alkaline in there and the acid will not penetrate that far. I guess hydro will only clean certain stains? Also hydro can change the colour of the concrete especially if poured onto dry concrete. The main thing to take care of if using that is that the whole slab should be cleaned using the same process to avoid patchiness. ie if you wet down a section and use acid then all areas you clean should be wet first otherwise where the acid gets on dry concrete it will discolour it in comparison to where it came into contact with wet concrete. Marcmove is meant to be good, see post from someone on another forum: Recently used a product called Marcmove by Calmarc to clean up a unsealed concrete floor that has been caked in oil for the better part 15 years and **** me it got it back to grey concrete able to hold a coating over the top.. No one wanted to touch this floor because of amount of oil on and in the concrete. I broomed the Marcmove on and let it sit for ~30mins, then high pressure clean it off, and because it just wasn't on the surface we needed to follow up with a product call pilcrete which was applied to the damp concrete and to stop the oil leaching back to the surface.. We top all this is 2 pack epoxy coating and has held and shown no signs of lifting after 2 mths. Looking at the post i think its just a TOOT TOOT from the supplier Re: Concrete stain removal; Australian product Marcmove. 5Jul 25, 2012 7:13 am Getjason Hydro isnt going to clean at all , its going to remove the layer by etching it away leaving massive patching and different textures > good luck with that when it dries as it will look ok in the wet . Looking at the post i think its just a TOOT TOOT from the supplier Just a private individual who really needs to find a local product that will clean the stains on the concrete terrace. The only product I have found soo far was Marcmove but any other brand that works is fine too. Problem is that here in Ceylon/Sri Lanka, the local firms don't necessarily have a website and even when they do, their informative content is lacking. Preferably a product that will not etch the concrete, because I have read that acid will etch and react with the lime in the concrete, leaving the concrete more susceptible to future staining.
