We just want to make sure we can get an aggregate loom without having to upgrade to an aggregate slab mix from BGC for the whole house when only a third is going to be polished. We had a charcoal tint (called Thunder) in ours, and yes we paid for it for the entire house over approximately 100m^2 even though only around 35m^2 is polished (entry lobby and hallway and rear vernada slab). (It added $1000 or so to costs). The advantage of this is the edge of the slab that is exposed looks really good next to our pavers. I'll get some photos in a week or so, at the moment there is a heap of furniture on it as the garage is out of action for sealing. We've got to do a final coat on the polished concrete. It's OK for folks to say what should and/or shouldn't happen to a polished concrete floor, but it's worth knowing what COULD happen and that you will be happy to accept that. Re: polishing concrete - heaps of questions! 23Nov 23, 2013 6:54 pm And when it is poured get an icecream container filler and get your guy to polish it as a sample then you will know what it will look like. Re: polishing concrete - heaps of questions! 24Nov 29, 2013 9:01 pm Wow, this post is just perfect. I am trying to convince my partner to forget the tiles included by the builder and let me try to do the concrete polishing. Animal, you said the concrete is been pour in a couple of weeks right? Are you going to do the polishing your self? Can you take 100's of pics? Cheers Re: polishing concrete - heaps of questions! 25Jun 20, 2014 4:58 am We are putting a penetrating sealer on our polished concrete. What grit should the polisher go to and what experience do any of you have with regards to waxing over a penetrating sealer? Re: polishing concrete - heaps of questions! 26Jan 05, 2015 4:32 pm Hi All, Reviving this thread. I am having trouble with what finishes are what. I have a friend who used their standard 25MPA, 14mm, 80 slump, low dose accelerator slab, they grinned/polished it themselves and then put a varnish/sealer of sorts on it. (Its over 4 years old and the varnish hasnt changed and no stains etc) The final result is a very salt&pepper/hit and miss result, with quiet visible cracks, dips (from grinding too hard?) etc - But I love the finish (apart from the dips, I even love the cracks), but I am finding that the suppliers I am speaking with are all talking about the highly polished, uniform finish,(perhaps without a sealant/varnish but polished super fine). One quote $109.09pm - Internal Polish - Full Stone Exposure finish. Internal Polish - Full floor finish incl 2 x densification and complete polish before sealing with impregnating sealant. Full exposure and polish of aggregate to clients desired sheen (matt finish to high polish) My builder even said I would have to pay around $300pm for a whole slab with bigger agg!! So am what I am looking for a grind and seal??? Or something else like a full polish? If anyone could help would be great My Build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=74866 Re: polishing concrete - heaps of questions! 27Jan 05, 2015 4:56 pm You need to separate the two scopes: 1 x supply and place concrete(with desired stone and colour added) 100mm slab around $100 sq mr 1 x concrete grinding and polishing ( Hollywood around 190+ sq mtr) grind and seal is NOT polished concrete. terms for concrete floor finishes are: Honed concrete salt & pepper concrete Burnished concrete Polished concrete: Fully exposed aggregate with Matte finish Fully exposed aggregate with Satin finish Fully exposed aggregate with Gloss finish 14mm aggregate is good because it is uniform but it doesn't mean the stones will all be fully exposed some will be specs. My builder is doing the slab through BGC, and I have asked what the standard thickness and agg size is. I now realise that grind and seal is not a true "polished concrete", and am now asking for two quotes off each contractor. Its hard to find examples of each on the net unfortunately. All prices INCLUDE GST Full concrete polish $120pm $128pm $132pm $176pm Grind & Seal $88pm $110pm $113pm My Build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=74866 Re: polishing concrete - heaps of questions! 30Jan 12, 2015 3:25 pm Well done.. though in NSW the cost for polished concrete in the 'true sense' is around $190 sq mtr for more than 150 sq mtr and upwards of $350 for less than 50 sq mtrs... But I was wondering anyone knew what Perth Builders allow polished concrete flooring? We have asked Summit and Dale Alcock. Summit came back with a flat no. And dale Alcock said we can do it post handover. Anyone else done it using these builders? I don't believe it is something that can be done post handover?.. Re: polishing concrete - heaps of questions! 32Feb 24, 2015 9:33 pm It is possible but difficult, time consuming and expensive.. and so much easier if the grinding and polishing is done before a wall is considered. Then cover and fix if need be after handover PS the grinding and polishing begins 3 days after the concrete has been placed and on a large job of over 250sq mtrs 10days to finish the polishing stage and this also gives the builder a flat, level edge to build off... no packers. Hi Ajoncs, From my experience its up to the builder and they may or may not be comfortable with it. If you really want it, then I suggest finding a builder that will work with you to have this done. On the other note - you can arrange the builder to do it themselves - may work out more expensive though. My Build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=74866 Re: polishing concrete - heaps of questions! 34Feb 26, 2015 6:13 pm Thank you!!! I will ask around other builders - or I may press Summit and Dale Alcock, as we really really want it. Thanks again... We upgraded our slab and mesh to the specification recommended by the polisher. Our first grind was completed before our bricks were delivered and the area has been 'grouted' over for protection.
