one supplier of aggregate paving weve tried so far has told us they cant show us anything that would help us choose colour or mix of aggregate paving all they can do is provide addresses of previously laid driveways etc. so how does one choose a colour? is it generally a "readymix" material and is there some way of seeing different colour/mix options available? Re: Exposed aggregate paving - different colours? 2Feb 16, 2008 11:28 am Hi Bec. I googled "exposed aggregate driveway colour" and found this Australian site. It has samples of the colours you can have.
http://www.concretewa.com.au/colourRange.php There were a lot of other sites that google found so you might want to do a search yourself and see if there are other colours around if you don't like any of those ones. Re: Exposed aggregate paving - different colours? 4Feb 16, 2008 4:39 pm what state are you in? Da Vinci Outdoor Living Architectural landscaping http://www.davincioutdoor.com Re: Exposed aggregate paving - different colours? 6Feb 16, 2008 10:07 pm Bec, you would think that these businesses would take nice photos of jobs that they have done to show prospective clients????
Then you can choose based on the photos, which addresses you want to go to to get a closer look??? Keep shopping around or if you find a driveway that you really like, go ask the owner for more information??? We'll be looking around in the next few months ourselves. But, took a drive while in the area to Mentone Pre Mix to check out sample colours....they were closed, but we peaked through the big window anyway.... We're sort of looking at something like this: L.B. Mix We don't want big pieces of white quartz through it and instead we want the brown tones to warm it up and compliment our brickwork.... But then checking out Mentone Pre Mix's website last night, we come across all of these too!!!! Montrose: Macquarie Mix: L.B.B.D.2. Mix: Purtel Mix: SO, at the end of the day, there are about 200 mixes to choose from.... We'll also check out the Cranbourne Premix place too..... Next Sat, i know where we're going......to scruitinise colours and make a selection so that we can have contractors quote on exactly what look we want. Will call you soon Troy to arrange that all important quote. also remember if you dont find a mix you like i can also do custom mix's using your pebble/s and oxide colour to suit your taste Da Vinci Outdoor Living Architectural landscaping http://www.davincioutdoor.com Re: Exposed aggregate paving - different colours? 14Apr 28, 2008 9:29 pm Hmmm... might ask Troy for quote too! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: Exposed aggregate paving - different colours? 15May 05, 2008 11:07 pm Well, we thought we had it all figured out.
We went to Mentone Pre-Mix on Saturday morning to select what mix we thought would be suitable for our driveway. We couldn't see all the options they had available, we originally liked the L.B. Mix pictured earlier in the thread, but in seeing it in a larger scale decided it had too much variation in colour to it. The guys then suggested a "Mont Brown" mix which is similar to the Montrose (also pictured above), in that it has the 7-14mm black stones with a charcoal base, but with brown quartz through it. So off we went to check out driveways..... Hmmmm.......not what we thought it would look like..... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee299/matthewnathan/IMG_7949.jpg I also fell in love with another style of exp. agg. that we saw at the showroom, it has a grinding /sandblasting process instead of the standard water wash process and looks like this: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ But because of the slope of our driveway, it still might not have enough grip and we don't want anyone slipping over when they come to visit!!! So unfortunately that option is out for us...not to mention it is double the price!!! So anyway, back to Mentone Pre-mix early next Saturday to look at other mix options- maybe it'll have to be a custom mix??? Were not sure??? We're catching up with Troy (davinci) for a quote on Saturday too, so got to make a decision fairly quickly!!! Ultimately what we'd like is a 7mm black stone as that tends to look darker and the coverage is more dense than the 7-14mm black/charcoal stone mix and then add some dark brown/coppery coloured stones into it for contrast. We don't want creams or whites at all in there, but on the other hand we don't want it ALL black either, our neighbours have the Montrose mix, 3 doors down....and i want to be different!!! Re: Exposed aggregate paving - different colours? 16May 14, 2008 9:26 am Hi Troy, I intend to put colour into my exposed agrregate concrete. Can you please let me know whether the colour will fade over time? Re: Exposed aggregate paving - different colours? 17May 14, 2008 4:36 pm the oxides used in concrete batching arnt uv stable and so over time if the colour isnt protected it will fade
i always after the expossed is poured acid clean with a 10:1 pressure wash and apply 2 coats of clear xylene based sealer this helps to protect the oxide colour and help reduce staining and also brings the colour of the pebble / stone out, like what putting an oil on timber does so in short expossed , coloured , faux brick concrete must be sealed Da Vinci Outdoor Living Architectural landscaping http://www.davincioutdoor.com Re: Exposed aggregate paving - different colours? 18May 15, 2008 12:41 am Troy
does exposed aggregate cement crack easily? The pavements in our development are all exposed aggregate cement and some of them have significant cracks in them . They are only about 12 months old at the most. Is this common?? Last year I had a gas leak at my house. 3 days later, I have about 1 sqm of my exposed aggregate paving broken up. I am not sure how to go about getting it repaired… 0 10404 After some ideas on making our patio kid friendly . Currently we have exposed aggregate. The patio faces west and is always in sun even though it has a shade directly… 0 3567 2 439 |
