Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Oct 30, 2011 2:35 pm just a general query as i know prices vary and each job is different, but could anyone give me a rough idea of the $$$$ we'd be looking at for approx 200m2 with the aggragate, or stones thru it - would be just in dining, kitchen, living area + passage way - no wet areas. [we are in WA]. also is it slippery when wet...just thinking of the kids running out of the shower and to their rooms and if they havent dried properly? Re: Cost of Polished concrete?? 2Oct 30, 2011 5:33 pm there have been threads on this before. a local polished concrete person who is on this forum when he's not flat out around the country with work is Onc, who when home is based in Margaret River but spends a fair bit of time up in Perth and over east. onc_artisan - check into some of his threads. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=49408&p=787487&hilit=polished+concrete+cost#p787487 is over east and some of Onc's work. There is a rough pricing cost on that page of the thread. Your biggest hurdles will be getting the builder to agree to allowing a pro person on site who isn't part of their regular team and to be responsible for keeping the concrete covered while other building work gets done. From what I've read since a lot of the initial work is done early before walls are plastered etc it can be a matter of the S.S. policing that the concrete stays covered and protected as as the client that you keep and eye out as well. Polish concrete is stunning. Hope you are able to get it done. I can't see how it would be more slippery than tiles. Re: Cost of Polished concrete?? 3Oct 30, 2011 8:19 pm kexkez Your biggest hurdles will be getting the builder to agree . Agreed and most builders tend to be very reluctant to be involved as a lot can go wrong. Onc is a great source of info and i'm sure he will help you out. We went with a local firm (melb) that came via a personal recomendation and we are getting mates rates to a point. We are of course doing it the most expensive way that it can be done and wished our builder had been on board from the start. As he wanted nothing to do with it we set up the slab that he was responsible for 100mm below the finished floor height, then arranged our guy to come in and pour a 100mm overlay after lockup. The advantage there was that we didnt have to protect the slab during the framing stage, and we also installed slab heating in the top layer making it more eficent because it was closer to the surface. We also went with a white concrete for the overlay which will look stunning, laying the whole slab with it would have been prohibitive. Its getting its 1st grind in about a fortnight and I'll post lots of pics in my main thread then. We are also in WA, not sure if the builder can arrange it or not... still deciding. : : : : : : : : : : : : 2014 | Time to move to the country 2012 | Our Build with Dale Alcock https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=61943 Re: Cost of Polished concrete?? 6Jul 19, 2012 6:38 pm CC101 woh - white concrete will look stunning. yep check out page 3 of my thread Re: Cost of Polished concrete?? 7Jul 19, 2012 6:43 pm beachside Just wondering if you decided on Polished Concrete and if so, who are you using? I'm having the same issue with my builder who doesn't even want to hear about polished concrete. How did you "set up the slab that he was responsible for 100mm below the finished floor height"? I wanted Hiperfloor(which is aparently the best) but was told if I do overlay the concrete might crack due to the heavy machinery. Re: Cost of Polished concrete?? 12Jul 24, 2012 8:24 pm Stick to your guns with the builder, universally they are afraid of anything that creates work for them. Yes there have been some horror stories with doddgy operators in the past but the industry has matured and it’s becoming quite a common floor finish now. We have a mix of timber tile and concrete floor finishes throughout our place. Our builder refused to help out with a stepped slab so we had it set at a 100mm down from the finished floor height. This was all measured from the floorboards in the original part of the house. The guys that set out the slab and laid it did a great job....mm perfect using the bearers as their guide (floor wasn’t even laid yet). So yes the concrete overlay was 100mm thick, laid over the 3month old structural slab. This is more than enough to cope with the grinding process, I don’t think even suspended floors are much thicker. If the builder is grumbling about setting out the floor, just ask him how is it any different from allowing for tile or boards over yellow tongue.....it’s just adding 80mm to the tape measure. If you are in Melbourne I can pass on the details of who I used, give them a call and they will set your mind at ease Re: Cost of Polished concrete?? 13Jul 24, 2012 10:24 pm ^^ cost for polished concrete can vary from 100 - 150$ sq mtr. But don't be fooled there is real polished concrete and grind and coated polished concrete. No they are not the same. Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Cost of Polished concrete?? 14Jul 25, 2012 3:00 am I wanted Hiperfloor(which is aparently the best) but was told if I do overlay the concrete might crack due to the heavy machinery.[/quote] hahahaha The System is only as good as the person with the experience and knowledge behind the grinder . Ive seen many so called Hiperfloors that look like a wave Looks like there needs to be some serious education for homeowners , Polished concrete no more slippery than tiles and will we warmer as it has far great thermal mass than thin tiles Onc will hook you up When you get a chance watch the last couple of videos. The cracks are pretty bad, it's almost as though he hasn't put any reo in that corner and hasn't compacted/levelled… 2 3358 You are fine. The concrete is never going to explode. Worse case scenario is that it develops a crack from different rates of expansion but hopefully it's got some… 5 4509 |
