We have a bare concrete slab pergola area outside our house and we're planning on painting it as a temporary solution until we can afford to tile it or install timber decking. The guy at the hardware store said we can just put two coats of dulux exterior paint straight down and that we'd just need to pressure clean it first. Is that correct? has anybody here done this before with good results? We're not sure if we should be using a primer or sealer in addition to the two coats of paint. As I said above, this is just a temporary solution for a couple years but we want it to look good and work well too. Re: Painting pergola concrete slab 3Jun 24, 2011 2:24 pm Yeah, that's what I would have thought too. So I just called Dulux then and they told me outright not to use the one that was recommended to us. I'm going to try and swap it around for a more suitable one for concrete surfaces instead. Hopefully that will do the trick. Re: Painting pergola concrete slab 5Jul 05, 2011 4:27 pm Hmm, you know, I never thought of that. Chances are we'll put in a composite timber deck on top of the slab in the years to come, so hopefully it won't matter whether we could tile it or not. A good point though. FWIW, we went with paving paint in the end and 1 undercoat + 2 topcoats later we're quite happy with the finish, and by the sounds of things it should last. Is there a building permit?
