Why couldn't it all be part of the same pour? There's probably an obvious reason for this but I can't see it. Just interested to know why. Re: Why is the garage floor poured after the main slab? 3May 27, 2011 10:30 am I think also they require garage floors in some states to be lower than the finished floor level of the house. As onc said. It'll be in better shape. Imagine a bunch of trades lugging timber, bricks, steel through and even bobcats and mini diggers over your concrete floor that won't be getting covered. It would probably have a bunch of marks in it that won't come out. I like that fact that it'll be done after the fact as it'll mean when I go to apply my garage floor finish I won't have to spend days cleaning it, just a sweep and a quick jet wash and let it dry then apply the coating. Re: Why is the garage floor poured after the main slab? 4May 27, 2011 8:51 pm Thank you guys! That makes perfect sense. On that note, our build is just underway, with first bricks being laid now. When it comes time to pour the garage floor, I'd like a nice smooth finish that I can paint with a 2 pack finish - aircraft hangar floor style. Will this smooth finish demand more time and energy from the team than a typical "rough" finish as tends to be the norm? is it more than a carton's compensation?
