Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 May 17, 2011 10:20 pm Hi All, My first post to this forum... I need some advice about polished concrete. We are OBing and need to get the flooring sorted. I couldn't find a tile that I was completely happy with and then started to wonder if we could polish the existing slab. Unfortunately the plastering has just been done (no skirting yet) so I am not optimistic (but hopeful )... Our slab is 25mpa. Can we get it polished and what costs are we looking at (we are building on the Gold Coast)? DH has spoken to a couple of companies here on the Gold Coast that have said that it can be done but because of the clay content in the soil where we are building, there is a higher chance of cracking (so will cost more $$). I would want to get it polished enough so that I wouldn't need to put any sealers on it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated and any suggestions for contacts on the Goldy would be lovely Re: Retrofit polished concrete floor 2May 18, 2011 6:08 am Why does the chance of cracking make it cost more? I would have assumed that because the slab is older and therfore harder it would cost more. cracking is underrated, if i was going for polished floors id be dissapointed if there wasnt some cracking. I like the look of em. Re: Retrofit polished concrete floor 3May 18, 2011 3:05 pm No one can guarantee that there will be no cracking - I guess most people would prefer not to have any cracks (including DH). I don't mind a crack here or there - in the concrete, that is I think our problem is more the 25mpa concrete mix as we were told it is harder to polish and more likely to crumble so more labour is involved and therefore, the costs will be higher. We have been quoted about $125/sqm. Does that sound correct? Re: Retrofit polished concrete floor 4May 19, 2011 4:59 pm Oh well... too late. DH has gone and bought 110sqm of tiles on me! Maybe next time. I have been able to get heaps of info from reading this forum anyways so will be better equipped for our next build (just need to let hubby finish this one and give him a few years to recover!). I will definitely make sure we do our research well in advance beforehand. CDC Housing Code 3 When to apply Floor Area external face of wall vs Gross Floor Area internal face of wall.
