Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 May 07, 2011 11:50 am Hi I am currently leveling my front land and filling up the deeper area with more sand. How do you go about screeding a large area like this to level it? What should I use as rails? The other thing I would like to know is how do you remove some cement from the side of house foundation, is there a way to chip it away? Thanks David Re: Paving a large area 10.5m x 7.5m area 2May 07, 2011 12:55 pm Probably the best screed rails for this sort of job are scaffold tubes although lengths of gal pipe should be OK. If the hole is deep make sure you compact in layers and/or used stabilised sand thats adding 5% cement. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: Paving a large area 10.5m x 7.5m area 4May 10, 2011 3:05 pm Usually you would put a small amount of cement over the edges where the rails were so the paving cannot move. Because you will probably have a rail in the middle of the area you should remove the rail and fill up with compacted sand. As I mentioned above I use stabilised sand which makes the sand more solid to walk on. I would suggest if you are trying to save money use stabilsed sand for th top 100mm and for the rail infill sand. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get !
