Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 May 06, 2011 8:56 am We got the above quote for doing concrete driveway - charcoal colour only on top (not mixed in the cement) + sealing. Our driveway comes over to approx 62 sq.m We are located in North shore area of Sydney. Does this sound OK ? To me it looks on a bit higher side - but then I don't have much knowledge about driveways ! Any advise much appreciated ! Re: $6000 for 62sqm concrete driveway ? Is this OK? 2May 06, 2011 9:00 am our builder is charging $4790 for 52m2 stenciled driveway so sounds pretty close Re: $6000 for 62sqm concrete driveway ? Is this OK? 3May 06, 2011 11:10 am A few people have been posting some pretty low numbers for concrete recently, but as an average I think$96.77er/m2(which is your price) for colored concrete + sealed is about right. FWIW I think 60-75p/m2 for plain, 80-95p/m2 for colored and 100-120(possibly more) for exposed aggregate are the areas you will be finding prices in. The biggest thing is check out some other work they have done and ask for addresses for a few years old too. Just because they are the most expensive it doesn't mean they will be the best. On the flip side Cheap doesn't mean they cut corners but it could do. Re: $6000 for 62sqm concrete driveway ? Is this OK? 4May 06, 2011 4:56 pm We pay $100-120/m2. BUT, we pay this on driveways that have engineer drawings, and the concretors are professionals. So your price is right, IF you are getting an engineered slab. My advice is the following: 1. Get an Structural Engineer to design a slab for you. Cost $500-1000. 2. Ask him the names of concretors he knows. 3. Call them, get a quote. If you do this the bad news is that the slab is going to cost you $8-10k, BUT, you'll be able to drive on it for the next 30 years. OR Pay $6k to some hillbillies that turn up in a ute, "design" it themselves, take your money and let you watch it crack in 12 months. 5 years later it will look Osama's bedroom. My point: Even a builder cant get a slab for <$100/m2, so what makes you think a homeowner gets to beat the pro's. These jokers have no license, no insurance, dont pay GST or income tax - your taxes are paying for their kids to go to the doctor and to go to school. Paul Re: $6000 for 62sqm concrete driveway ? Is this OK? 7May 09, 2011 9:41 pm Hmmm not sure about the feedback here. We just paid $75 per sqm for coloured through concrete, with sealer, and saw cuts. Was a big area though, so maybe that drove the cost down a little? Was around 250sqm of concrete. Also, they've been in business 20+ years, and multiple references for them, and they've done a great job Re: $6000 for 62sqm concrete driveway ? Is this OK? 8May 09, 2011 10:45 pm what's the approx. volume of concrete needed? what extent of work is involved? I think a $/m2 comparison isn't always that accurate. We had 65m2 laid as 2 slabs but they used 24m3! Ours was much more than your $s but it needed 2 lots of formwork, steel and a concrete pump. To my understanding early saw cuts are to control shrinkage cracks, so doing them now would be pointless. Control joints may reduce ugly cracking during periods of soil… 3 9863 Hi all I need a guidance on how far I need to space expansion joints in the concrete driveway and its type (keyway/foam.) Contraction joints are at 3m max for a 125 slab. Thanks 0 10948 |
