Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Mar 18, 2011 9:33 am Hi all, I am just about ready to install the fences around my new house, and I have agreed with my neigbour, who has just finished building his house, that I will install the fencing to minimize cost. He has also asked me to install a fence between him and his other neighbour, however this section of fence will require a small retaining wall, ranging from 100mm at the rear of the property, to about 300-400mm at the front. His property is the 'higher' property, as his property was 'built up' on that side to level the block for construction. I am planning on using concrete sleepers and C-Channel for the retaining wall and then attaching the good-neighbour fence to the c-channel. My question is; who is responsible for the cost of the retaining wall? The higher property owner? the lower property owner? or is the cost split as is the case for the actual fencing? Re: who pays for a retaining wall 4Mar 18, 2011 1:39 pm As the other 2 stated your neighbor will be the one to flip for the retaining wall, but don't use concrete sleepers for the wall unless its a "I want concrete and nothing else" situation. I just had 30mt of wall put in at 1.0mt height and we use treated pine. Much cheaper. Thy were at 1200mm centers, which i assume you will have quite close centers for concrete and my neighbors house is 1.5m off the new wall. I'd use 100mm I beams @1200mm centers if you want to ensure the wall is strong enough. Anything up to 1m in height is technically landscaping and doesn't need to be engineered unless it really close to the house. Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that. Sleepers are 200*75*2000 mm installed over 17 steel posts. I… 0 6899 |
