Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Mar 26, 2011 10:58 pm I'm thinking of down the side of the house. the length is 20m and the width is 1.5m and these are the options, however I'm not sure about the costs: (pavers are 600 x 400) Our landscaper has suggested a few things but no prices yet. I've heard artificial grass is expensive but anyone got any rough estimates on price / sqm for: 1. Boral pavers laid as a paved path (1200mm wide) with pebbles on either side 2. a concrete path (done at time of driveway 1200mm wide) with pebbles on either side 3. Boral pavers laid as stepping stones with pebbles on either side....I figured even though you use less pavers this way it's more labour intense since you have to lay concrete for each paver...compared to just paving the whole 20m as a strip on roadbase/sand? Re: paving / concreting or pavers as stepping stones? 2Mar 27, 2011 9:23 am It also depends on how you really want this to look . If it's an unused side, hidden from views and frequent usage, then something less flashy could do (eg. gravel alone, on some compacted rubble). If you want more flashy, but also budget, maybe option 3, but exclude concreting under each paver. Overall, I think option 2 could be less exy than anything. BTW, do you insist on pebbles on either side just for the looks? And which Boral pavers are you thinking? There are not many 6x4 ... My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: paving / concreting or pavers as stepping stones? 3Mar 28, 2011 10:17 pm hi thanks for the reply. the "pebbles" don't necessarily have to be "pebbles" just crushed rock of some sort (inexpensive...if that exists)...but something to hide the bare dirt... it won't be frequently used ..... so i was going to space them 600mm apart... but I would like to use something amongst the "pebbles/gravel" to break it up... The pavers as stepping stones - if they are not concreted in, are they likely to move much? (a landscaper will be doing it) The (coping) pavers we're using around the pool are Boral aspenstone Vanilla. It was suggested we use the same ones...though I believe they aren't the cheapest pavers. http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i80/danielt25/New%20House/daniel3.jpg http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i80/danielt25/New%20House/IMG_9401a.jpg Our "Better Homes Queensland" Cairns Build viewtopic.php?f=31&t=40451 Current stage - 1st builder's clean done. It has a nice colour and it doesn't get stuck on shoes when wet unlike some of the paths I had prior to putting down the Tuscan. There are different sizes though, I went with 2cm I think which probably makes a difference. I'm sure it was around $30/sqm. It was very easy to do, we just hired a water filled compactor from Bunnings for $15. Have a look at the photos half way down this thread (not my photos) but they are doing something similar with Tuscan Topping viewtopic.php?t=8252 I want to do something similar for the other side of my house, I have a lot of tree roots though so no point concreting. Re: paving / concreting or pavers as stepping stones? 5Mar 29, 2011 7:24 pm Aspenstone Vanilla was our immediate choice - until we figured it won't suit us because I'm scared of wide grooves Then I discovered their 'Stoneworks Travertine' large 500x500 paver and loved it, although that is their actual top of range paver and top of price too (at $100/m2 retail). But then, of course, we threw everything back up into the air and back to the drawing board ... long story . So, I don't think I will have pavers in the end at all, pitty about my 'Stoneworks Travertine' Good thing is that I am now quite familiar with all different types of pavers, manufacturers etc. ... all that knowledge now wasted My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: paving / concreting or pavers as stepping stones? 6Mar 29, 2011 9:25 pm Hi Lex Yes unfortunately the aspenstone doesn't sit together as flush as some other pavers.... I do agree the stoneworks travertine looks nice...but i wonder if it would look funny having the pool coping tiles as aspenstone surrounded by stoneworks travertine (paving a border of 1200mm around the pool coping paver) Our "Better Homes Queensland" Cairns Build viewtopic.php?f=31&t=40451 Current stage - 1st builder's clean done. If not, can you use 'Stoneworks Travertine' for that, instead of Aspenstone, to blend it all together? But anyway, both these pavers are gorgeous. We fell in love with the look of "real stone" with Aspen, but also love the look of the other one and I think it might age better (because it's already speckled and the colour is more random, while Aspen is very flat and uniform). Also, Aspen vanilla colour could be too bright for our particular situation (and we don't like the other 2 colours). Depending on where you live, you might get lucky and find a display on the actual ground (not on walls) in a Boral display centre. I took some pics of both these pavers at a local Boral place and both on ground. Let me know if you want to see them ... (They all look stunning on walls ... ) EDIT Actually, these 2 pavers, if used in same sort of colours (Vanilla and Smoke) might work well together! Same sort of undertone (grey/white) but different texture ... My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... It will be neat but you won't have much freeboard.
