Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Mar 02, 2011 9:27 am Wondering if anyone has light coloured pavers outside and how do they maintain them. Any problems with staining or dirt that can't be washed out? I noticed that the tops of rugged pavers (all those little humps and ridges) get pretty much black after a while and was wondering how hard is it to keep those rugged pavers clean. For example, Boral Stylestone pavers like these Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Or how to keep the light coloured smooth pavers clean, for that matter. Are you "allowed" to give them a good pressure wash often? Or a gentle wash only? What if the pavers are laid directly on sand or soil - would the sand / "grout" just wash away eventually? Also, what is the norm for join width with large pavers? My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Light coloured pavers - maintenance? 2Mar 06, 2011 8:39 pm Again, feedback = zero. Question too trivial?? Or hard?? Or boring? Or unusual? Not really super related to the original question, but ... Just read somewhere that all concrete pavers will fade. Strange. I thought that colour-through concrete cannot fade My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Light coloured pavers - maintenance? 3Mar 11, 2011 11:43 pm I haven't moved in yet, but I saw no-one comment so thought I would say, I've got light grey/silver pavers on my driveway and alfresco. I will be sealing them with a gloss type sealer before moving in, then I guess Ill just get HTB to pressure wash them every couple of months?? Here are mine...(kind of regret getting such light pavers for driveway now!) The road to success is always under construction House completed April 2011 - slowly making it a home... Re: Light coloured pavers - maintenance? 4Mar 12, 2011 11:02 am Can't help with your original question lex, except to say that if they are harder to clean, the ridges in the pavers should help hide any residual dirt? and I have heard the same about concrete pavers, they all fade over time. only the natural stone ones are more colour safe apparently. Mine have definitely faded, and they are coloured right through. "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions." — Elizabeth Gilbert Living in our new house. We are also consdiering a very light cement grey paver ... and we thought we'd have too much brightness so still undecided. We also saw some travertine (supposedly Turkish, but who knows), but it's only 3cm thick. Not sure if that is enough thickness without a slab. Not a huge fan of colour variations in travertine though, but hopefully filling the holes can even the colour out a bit. Good to know it doesn't fade. One good thing with light concrete pavers is that the fading will be a bit less noticeable than with darker pavers. Oh yeah, we decided that we're not getting a paver with a too rugged / textured surface, or uneven edges. My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Light coloured pavers - maintenance? 6Mar 12, 2011 7:40 pm I'm sure that you've seen the pavers Lex in our A/F area. They are cream to match the internal tiles. I LOVE them, but they are a bit of a pain to keep clean. We use a Water pressure spray gun for a real good clean, but I sweep them in between. Have to say though that we have the darker tiles on the balcony at the front of the house and the maintenance is the same. EDIT- OOPS! sorry just realised you were talking about something different...sorry Thought you meant the outdoor tiles. Re: Light coloured pavers - maintenance? 8Mar 12, 2011 10:48 pm Thanks, tm ... have to admit that I thought that your a/f tiles were grey Hmmm ... if tiles are so hard to keep clean, I can only imagine that pavers would be even worse I always thought that tiles are easy to keep clean. ... Actually, I should remember our own bathroom floor tiles - they are a magnet for all sorts of stain and stubborn dirt. Some pavers seem quite smooth to touch and therefore I hope easier to clean Zarli , your facade colours are so beautiful as they are, I love white (or close to white) external house walls - I think they are simply special. I won’t do sand under pavers and will connect all up under pavers, however I was going to do: 1) Roadbase compacted with manual hand tamper 2)… 10 18565 Those span tables can be pushed a little for a low deck if you dont mind a little flex.
