Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Feb 13, 2011 9:55 pm Howdy, just going through the costs of building a new house. Does anyone know the costs to build a driveway in Brisbane? The ground is perfectly flat and we are looking at either Coloured or Exposed.... depending on the cost. Any help would be appreciated. Re: Cost of a driveway in Brisbane? 2Feb 14, 2011 5:25 am Hello, For Colour we charge the same Square meter rate ($65) plus the extra cost of the concrete. (usually $60 - $70 Per cubic Meter) Exposed is a little harder to quote as the are many options which vary drastically in price. Hope this helps a little. Re: Cost of a driveway in Brisbane? 3Feb 14, 2011 5:32 pm Hello, It does also depend on the size of the job. You could quite possiably obtain quotes for around $57 -$65 plus the extra cost for the colour weather is is in the mix (all the way through the concrete) or an oxide thrown onto the concrete while it is wet. If you know ho many Square meters the job is let me know and i can give you a ball park figure that you can expect to pay. Re: Cost of a driveway in Brisbane? 4Feb 14, 2011 6:42 pm As mentioned before the colour and or chosen aggregate for exposed aggregate has a wide choice and price. Standard concrete ~$70 sq mtr(N25 or 25 mpa) Exposed aggregate ~$106 sq mtr (inc GST) + $7 sq mtr for us to seal.( mid to high range colour and stone mix choice) A less expensive aggregate mix could reduce the cost by $10-15 sq mtr. Or is there more to it? And how can an average person know what mix are they really getting (eg. is the concretor going to deliver 20 or 25 ... ) ? Also, do the quoted averages include the whole job, or is it for the actual concrete/applying colour only? Do these prices include all the mesh, pump hire (if needed), excavation, saw cutting and the like? Or maybe it's easier to say what the price does NOT include? Re: Cost of a driveway in Brisbane? 6Feb 14, 2011 7:28 pm Lex Hi onc, what do you mean by less expensive aggregate mix? There are many diferent colours of oxide to 'colour' the mix and there are many different stones(aggregate) that can be used as aggregates(blends) some are more expensive due to cost of extraction or availability A 20 mpa mix? Or is there more to it? The strength of concrete is given a number (was once in MPA[megapascals]now called N [N/mm^2] but, 1 Mpa = 1 N/mm^2 so 20MPA is N20 and relates to the strength of concrete.. the higher the number the higher the strength. And how can an average person know what mix are they really getting (eg. is the concretor going to deliver 20 or 25 ... ) ? You get what you ask for. From 20 MPA to 25 MPA is about $10 Also, do the quoted averages include the whole job, or is it for the actual concrete/applying colour only? Do these prices include all the mesh, pump hire (if needed), excavation, saw cutting and the like? Or maybe it's easier to say what the price does NOT include? The driveway would be 56m2 plus would need another 8m2 of path/patio Thanks for your help Re: Cost of a driveway in Brisbane? 8Feb 14, 2011 10:01 pm onc_artisan Lex And how can an average person know what mix are they really getting (eg. is the concretor going to deliver 20 or 25 ... ) ? You get what you ask for. From 20 MPA to 25 MPA is about $10 Let's say we ask for 25 MPa. How can we know that he didn't order 20 MPa so he can save himself a tiny bit of money?? How can we know what's really in the mixer truck? I guess we can't ... Another thing - is the pre-mixed / colour through coloured concrete any better than the one where they just mix the oxide in the top layer of concrete? Is the pre-mixed colour more uniform, and is the added colour patchy and never uniform ... I guess that would depend on the skill of the concretors?? Re: Cost of a driveway in Brisbane? 10Feb 14, 2011 10:48 pm Not good to just colour/mix the top layer?? They are saying that's the way to go. I have to say that it didn't sound too different to me than stencilled (that's why I asked you ), although I don't know if they even mix / swirl the colour in between the stencil pattern ... They are saying the pre-mix is unreliable in terms of colour and "expensive" (and I haven't checked with the plants yet) and that we don't need it and bla bla bla. Anyway, how did you know how I search for my tradies? What you described is about half of the process ... Unfortunately, still no guarantees My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Cost of a driveway in Brisbane? 12Feb 15, 2011 3:37 pm Hello, I,m not going to knock the process of oxide troweled into the top layer of concrete. I have had to do it a few times over the years. I would however recommend full depth color. For the extra price (around $60 per cubic meter) it doesn`t add a hell of a lot to the price.
