Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Feb 10, 2011 10:02 am When I was speaking with our sales manager yesterday he said that some people have their driveway so it comes off the road as a single width and meets up with the garage as double. The reason for this is to cut down on costs. I have never seen it done like that before (it doesn't sound great to me - look wise) Has anybody had any experience with it and or have any pictures? Re: single/double driveway 3Feb 10, 2011 10:16 am I am surprised you haven't seen this. I wouldn't recommend it though as you waste a car space on your property.
Best to have it double to the foot path then also increase the crossover(which usually requires a permit and approval from coucils first. Re: single/double driveway 4Feb 10, 2011 10:22 am Some councils will have limitations on the width of the driveway at the footpath/roadside end. Check with your council first. Re: single/double driveway 5Feb 10, 2011 4:17 pm Most show houses have this single crossover with a double garage.......... But the problems aren't apparent because they use the garage as their sales office. Not only do you lose a car space on the driveway but If you have a car on the drive and one in the garage you always have to move the car on the drive to get out the garage. Re: single/double driveway 6Feb 11, 2011 8:45 pm We've got a contract on a block that already has a driveway up to the front of the property. Problem is it's only a single width provision. I'm now wondering whether it's worth the bother/cost of getting it dug up & relaid or just to roll with it. Our street is quite wide and has plenty of space for on-street parking i.e. cars probably won't need to be parked on the driveway. Any opinions? Re: single/double driveway 8Feb 16, 2011 1:55 pm I don't think it will be something we will be going with but I would still like to know what it looks like. I can't find a picture and we drove around some of the new areas and didn't see any so if someone has a pic of a driveway like this could they please post it.
