Just been quoted by the builder $130m2 to lay the driveway of our house (yet to enter contract). It's 60m2 of driveway (coloured with oxide?), with a rise of about 1/2m over approx 6m, so I wouldn't consider it overly sloping... but looking at what people here have been have been paying for what seems to be more labour intensive, does that seem somewhat expensive, even with the builder's markup from the sub-contractor?

I wouldnt let a project builder handle your driveway.
I dont know for sure, but i would say, Masto have subcontracted it out to another company, who has in turn subcontracted it out to a local contractor, thats 2 company's taking their piece of the pie for doing nothing basically.
