Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Nov 09, 2010 6:36 pm Hi guys, Hopefully this section is appropriate. But I have a question regarding my review period with my builder. Anyway, the short story is my driveway has a massive crack (about half a cm in width - not a hairline) from one side to the other horizontally. It's on the bottom half. The builder is currently investigating but I'm totally unsure what my rights are, and what can even be done to fix this quite severe problem. Does anyone have any insight, advice, or experience on this one? Cheers, niko Re: Concreting problem - My rights? 2Nov 09, 2010 7:02 pm What state are you in? Have you paid? How long ago was the job completed? Does the crack go all the way through the slab?(depth) If you move the grass/dirt/paving next to the slab can you measure how thick it is? Re: Concreting problem - My rights? 4Nov 11, 2010 8:04 am Niko a 5mm crack definitely sounds like a big deal. There could be multiple causes, however I would think that they all lead to significant fabrication issues. Examples of possible causes: Incorrect soil type assumed in design. Insufficient compaction / wrong type of subgrade. Insufficient / poorly placed reinforcement. Lack of or poorly formed expansion / contraction joints. What will most likely happen is the builder will try to repair the concrete using an epoxy injection or similar. Then if any of the above it the root cause of the issue the crack will form again.
