Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Oct 10, 2010 12:31 pm wow, there is so much great info here!!!, this is my first post so here goes.... We have a 100 year old period style home, and was wondering if it is possible to remove some flooring (in 4 rooms, all in the same area of the house) and box it up and pour a slab in there, still leaving all remaining stuff there, ie.stumps, bearers, joists ect. then have the concrete polished??? can the concrete be poured over the timber and how thick does it have to be between the timber and the top of the floor? I would like to add a concrete floor in the kitchen and living area's, so it could be polished, all the rest of the house has polished floorboards, but this part of the house (was an extention 20 years ago) has the yellow tounge style flooring with lino on it, and it really looks YUK!! we are open to any other suggestions, we thought of a the new style timber floating floor, but unsure how it would look as we have baltic pine, wide boards in the front of house and a skinny hardwood board in the rear, dont want to much mix matched timbers.... Hope that makes sense, Thanks Jim Re: Pouring a concrete slab into an existing home??? 2Nov 01, 2010 11:05 pm I have seen concrete poured inside an old house. You could leave bearers and joist assuming the height is not an issue, but I would not. I think the timbers will look ok. Go for a machine trowel finish if possible. Good luck Pulpo Thanks for your advice. So far i have not noticed any issues with doors and windows. Builder advised they will organise drainers to inspect 2 weeks ago but no further… 7 18806 The concreter will take and reuse. In my case I bought structural LVLs and scraped them back and used them as joists. 1 5160 yep, clearly mark where the infloor heating pipes are before drilling or nailing 1 6065 |
