Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Sep 04, 2010 4:51 pm I have a lowset house with a covered outdoor area at the rear. The existing pavers need replacing and it has been suggested that we go for a wooden decking instead of new paving. I'm concerned about decking being only a few inches off the ground and how that would look. Has anyone done anything similar? Photos would be great! I'm in Brisbane and there's a pool a couple of metres from where the paving/decking would end. Re: Paving or Decking 2Sep 05, 2010 10:16 am I think it would look great and give the backyard a bit of zing! You see so many backyards now with all just paving (we had it too) and when we went to a lot of displays they mixed in some of the decking too and it looked fab!! We were told when looking at it that there is a plastic decking which looks like normal decking and doesnt need as much up keep like the real wood stuff. I have been told it is more expensive but in the long run I think the extra would be worth it. Also I have been told that its ok for near pools too RHI - BALDIVIS PERTH 2005 Bought/Finished WA Housing Centre Home 2010 Building the Benchmark with REDINK Homes in The Avalon 2013 Building the Michigan with Cont3nt Living In Highbury Estate! Re: Paving or Decking 3Sep 06, 2010 9:42 am It sounds like you will find it hard to build a deck only a few inches from the ground. It could potentially spell dissaster in the long run with moisture and water from the pool. With decks you generally need a slope undernear to carry the water away otherwise in heavy rain fall you might have issues. In a nut shell, for less hassel, go pavers. As rhi3384, you can also do a combination of deck and pavers that would mitigate your potential water issues. Re: Paving or Decking 4Sep 06, 2010 10:13 pm Thanks for the responses. I think going to look at some displays is a great idea. I've seen some pics of display homes with what looks like tiled patios which look good too (Not sure if they're tiles or paving). I think a traditional timber deck is out due to the practicalities of the site though. Hi, as per the subject. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best value decking oil (Bunning is close to where I live) for a treated pine deck? Thanks 0 10971 I had 28m2 of engineered pavers laid six months back and it was difficult to find someone not taking the pi$$. Internet suggested it should be $85-100/m2 to lay them.… 3 12378 As most others have posted above the install isn't compliant.
