Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Aug 18, 2010 9:36 am Hi all - Were trying to decide the whole concrete vs pave situation and I'm hoping someone with a bit more knowledge than I can help me out with this... Here is the front of my house and my driveway is a (from memory 1 in 4?) slope: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ My question is: 1. Is it too steep to pave without issues of movement down the track? If not, am I limited in the selections of pavers (as I am of the understanding the little rectangle ones offer the best for minimal movement) 2. If I were to concrete it, what are the chances of it cracking as there is a little bit of fill soil (from cut and fill). ALSO Does anyone happen to know the rough cost per m2 for paving and concreting? Thanks very much in advance! Our home: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=29960 Re: Concrete or Pave 2Aug 20, 2010 9:50 am Really!? No one has any thoughts/ideas on this? Our home: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=29960 Re: Concrete or Pave 3Aug 20, 2010 10:03 am It sucks when noone replys i agree.... so i may not be able to answer your question but some feedback is that your slope to garage looks a bit like how ours will be. We are going with stencil concrete as i think it looks cleaner / crisper then pavers. I dont think you will have a problem with cracking if you engage a good concreter. Thanks pottsville - I'm just surprised, as I have not seen posts go unanswered too often Thanks for your feedback, appreciate the reply. Nice to know what other with the same sort of slope have. About $80 sq mtr for grey. Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Concrete or Pave 6Aug 25, 2010 8:09 pm Even with all precautions concrete can still get hairline cracks. It can be visually minimised by using exposed aggregate, as you don't see it as much. Paving can also be done successfully, as long as there is a 125mm concrete slab on a stable sub base, and the selected pavers are laid on a mortar bed and grouted. Stretcher bond is a good strong pattern. There will need to be sawcuts every 4m through the pavers and part of the concrete base, so that it doesnt crack when there is pressure between the garage slab and the concrete crossover. You can minimise seeing the sawcut by filling it with an exterior flexible sealant to match the paver colour Planned Landscape Constructions http://www.plannedlandscape.com.au Find us on facebook http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id= ... 9907611509 Re: Concrete or Pave 7Aug 28, 2010 11:54 am i think concrete, wouldn't paved lift or move on that slope? i also think concrete would be cheaper Re: Concrete or Pave 8Dec 01, 2010 4:57 pm Hey Double B, did you end up going paving or concrete? As you know we are building with Dechellis and we have a slope like yours on the driveway. We are trying to find out the cost and would be interested to know who you used and approx how much per sqm! ------------------------------------------------------ Handover: 14 December 2010 Current: Putting in plants! My View thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=38242&hilit=dechellis+magill To my understanding early saw cuts are to control shrinkage cracks, so doing them now would be pointless. Control joints may reduce ugly cracking during periods of soil… 3 9863 Hi all I need a guidance on how far I need to space expansion joints in the concrete driveway and its type (keyway/foam.) Contraction joints are at 3m max for a 125 slab. Thanks 0 10947 |
