Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Jul 04, 2010 1:39 pm Hi i'm new here and really have no idea about concreting and I'm getting quite confused from some of the posts i read! We want to get our driveway concreted, which then flows into the back yard. We also need a retaining wall too and there will be some excavation to do the driveay and we want new gates into the back yard. What should be be asking for? i read a post here on how to know if your concretor is a good one, that users lots of "tems" that i don't understand - sl62, sl72 use of chairs, slump etc so can someone please explain? Obviously when i get quotes i want to be able to compare apples with apples, not just cost. Also does it make any difference to the process if most of the contrete is on a sloap? And if we need retaining walls and gates do these need to be done before the contceting, after, during (gates)? Sorry for so many questions but its looking to be a quite expensive job , and do normal concreters do stairs too? thanks for any help! Slump is the amount of 'flow' concrete has, with a certain amount of water added. Concretors (Grano's .. called this because we work with granite, mostly) can do most stairs, if they are any good, they will have to make some 'forms' for the concrete.
