Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Jun 23, 2010 10:19 pm We recently had our exposed aggregate driveway done. The guy who came to spray the sealer came the next day to spray the sealer. Unfortunately, he started spraying without letting us know that he was here and did not ask us to open our brand new timber garage door! I only found out after he had sprayed the first coat of sealer and quickly opened the garage door for him to spray the second coat. After he had finished, i couldn't go out to check if the sealer had been sprayed at the bottom of the garage door as we were asked not to walk on it for 3 hrs! After the sealer was dry, we went to check the garage door and we were upset to see that when he sprayed the first coat of sealer, some of it had been sprayed on the bottom panel of our timber garage door. It is now dry and looks like a varnish that we can't get off. We are absolutely gutted. DH will contact the concreter tomorrow to let him know of this issue but are afraid they will make it worse if they don't take care when trying to remove it from our brand new timber garage door! Does anyone know how to remove dried driveway (exposed aggregate) sealer from a timber garage door without damaging the timber? Your help will be much appreciated! The sealer is probably an acrylic based sealer as thats what most of these guys use (surface sealer). The good news is that if it is this type of sealer you can remove it, the bad news is that it may damage the roller door. As most of these sealers are solvent sensitive, you can probably buy xylene (from bunnings) and apply it directly to the sealer. It should soften the sealer and then you may be able to scrap or rub it off. I would try a very small section first, somewhere where hoefully if it doesn't work it wont be noticable. Remeber to use gloves and a mask, its smelly stuff. Good luck. Re: How to remove dried driveway sealer on timber garage doo 3Jun 24, 2010 9:58 am miteq wow, what a dill. Otherwise get the concretor to fix it, it's his mess by the sounds of it Re: How to remove dried driveway sealer on timber garage doo 5Jun 24, 2010 8:26 pm miteq Agreed, it is a worry.
