Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Jun 22, 2010 9:45 am We're thinking of getting a stamped slate look driveway (bluestone colour) and was wondering what the pros and cons of this sort are? I'm reading some searches for stamped but hard finding pros and cons. Any recommendations for a concreter? Thanks. Life is; then you tell yourself a story. Re: Stamped Concrete Driveway 2Jun 23, 2010 4:39 pm there should be no cons, if you find yourself a decent contractor. remember, cheap is not necessarily the best, check previous jobs to make sure their work is as good as their word. ask the local decorative concrete supplier for recommended contractors, they will most likely only offer names that pay the bills on time, and push the most money through their business. They generally know whose worth using and who is not. Re: Stamped Concrete Driveway 3Jul 12, 2010 5:36 pm One guy I spoke to who has done work for others on the forum no longer does slate as he does a lot of work for PD and other builders and they don't get slate impression anymore. He said it can be quite slippery so the builders don't want it. Can anyone confirm this? Also, is it best to get the colour all the way through or on top and raked in? Everything I read is one way or the other, so does it matter? Life is; then you tell yourself a story. Re: Stamped Concrete Driveway 4Jul 12, 2010 7:19 pm Hi Oze, We have a stamped concrete driveway/backyard. After the concrete is laid, the coloured oxide is scattered across the surface. To keep it looking reasonable, it does need resealing every 2? years. It is a bit slippery, but you can get a fine sand that mixes into the sealer which helps the grip a bit. Neville Got a life, just can't find it! Re: Stamped Concrete Driveway 5Jul 12, 2010 7:34 pm ^^ plus if you keep adding sealer the slip factor will need to be address. If builders aren't supplying it anymore I would take that onboard Where you are coming from is where you are going to... To my understanding early saw cuts are to control shrinkage cracks, so doing them now would be pointless. Control joints may reduce ugly cracking during periods of soil… 3 9857 Hi all I need a guidance on how far I need to space expansion joints in the concrete driveway and its type (keyway/foam.) Contraction joints are at 3m max for a 125 slab. Thanks 0 10939 |
