Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Jun 11, 2010 9:11 pm Hi all, I need a shed floor concreted. Have got quotes with either hand or machine trowling, control joints for the machine trowling will be cut while the joints will be done by hand for the other option. The guy who quoted for the hand trowling believes this method is superior. So my question: is there is a difference (ie pros or cons) between hand or machine trowling? Thanks! Re: concrete: machine v hand trowling 2Jun 12, 2010 2:53 pm I think it might depend on how big your shed is. Maybe post in the paving & concreting forum for a better chance of an expert opinion? Re: concrete: machine v hand trowling 3Jun 13, 2010 7:54 pm either method can turn out looking pretty oridinary if the concreter has poor skills. The machine trowel is mainly used for large areas and hand trowel for smaller areas. I prefer saw cut over hand tool joints as they are neater and make the concrete surface easier to clean / sweep etc. In terms of superiority for a trowel finish (not stipple finish) both are about the same with a skilled concretor. The guy who quoted for hand troweling probably doesn't have a machine, I don't know why someone would opt to finish by hand when a machine will do the job.
