Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Apr 28, 2010 3:02 pm Had our driveway put in about 2 weeks ago... 70m of 400x400 recon limestone pavers. Looks fantastic and we'll be using the same pavers to do the backyard. However they used brickies cement around the edges of the driveway so the pavers don't collapse. I was advised yesterday it will break down in 6 months and that they should have used concrete. Is there much of a difference? They did such a great job that they surely know what they're doing so it lasts? Cheers Re: Concrete or cement for paving edging. 2Apr 28, 2010 8:45 pm It probably is a case of what different people have learned they will also do. My 1st boss used concrete, and I also do when I pave on sand (always lay on concrete slab and mortar now). Concrete will probably be that bit stronger being a bit higher Mpa and also having aggregate in the mix tying it together. Just make sure the haunching is set into a bit of a trench below the sand level and into the base material to lock it into place. If the mortar is pretty shallow it will move back over time and the edge pavers will do the same and fall away and sink.
