Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Apr 26, 2010 10:26 pm Hi all, I'm planning on cutting a 230mm square hole through 75mm thick liquid limestone to fit a drain grate under a downpipe. What's the best method of doing this for a diy'er? I've got a 5" angle grinder but I'm concerned about over cutting the edges and the lack of depth of the blade. Re: Cutting neat hole through concrete 2Apr 26, 2010 10:29 pm A 5" won't give much depth of cut Why not go round and core drill it... Then use your angle grinder to grind a rebate for the collar( a round one) Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Cutting neat hole through concrete 4Apr 27, 2010 4:45 pm OIC... Hmmm I wonder if the LL has entered the drainage system. Nice looking job, PITA about the downpipe being blocked. ... and what is the go with the downpipe into the LL, there should be a coupling of some kind. Some more thought needs to go into that one. Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Cutting neat hole through concrete 5Apr 27, 2010 7:57 pm The roof plumbers came back today with their camera equipment and said the pipe was completely broken up about 4.5m down from the downpipe. It's possible that its been broken for a while and I just never noticed given the backyard used to be a bit of a **** tip. Plus with the new patio being serviced by that downpipe it's getting a he'll of a lot more action than it used to. In regards to the coupling - it's there, just happens to be buried in sand and LL! It ended up like that because the backyard levels were way too low. I had to bring in a good 6m3 of sand prior to the pour just to get the LL finish level at one brick course below doors. Re: Cutting neat hole through concrete 6Apr 27, 2010 11:05 pm OIC... Tough choice then Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Thanks for your advice. So far i have not noticed any issues with doors and windows. Builder advised they will organise drainers to inspect 2 weeks ago but no further… 7 18804 DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair Are you doing this with a building permit?
