Typically this requires the pool being built first and then covered over while the rest of the house is built on top. To try and build the pool after the house would be very difficult in such a tight space, it would thus be far more expensive. So if I was to have the pool put in first would I still need the slab reinforced? Gee I'm getting more confused by the day No, the slab wouldn't need to be reinforced. The wall of the pool would act as the footing for the slab. The slab then sits on the wall of the pool. So instead of pouring your footings with piers and then building the wall of your pool next to that (in effect doubling up) you just have the wall of the pool engineered to take the load of the slab that is then built straight on top.
