Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Mar 20, 2010 5:18 pm Hi, I am thinking about getting my driveway done. I have seen a lot of people talking about exposed concrete and colored concrete but not too much on paved driveway. I love the look of pavers and it is a perfect match if you have a patio or outdoor living areas. I am wondering, in terms of cost, which one will cost more? And if you have used any type of these three driveways, why you chose it over the other two. Is there any recommendation? BTW, I have been watching a lot of Youtube videos on how to install paver driveways, it does not seem that hard at all. All you need is to hire a compactor and a paver cutter. Has anyone done a DIY for driveway before. How much you can save if you choose to do it yourself. Re: Paved / Colored Concrete / Exposed Concrete Driveway? 3Mar 24, 2010 9:39 pm Hi, I've done some research about this. I would say exposed aggregate is the most expensive option, followed by colored concrete and paving. I've had quotes of exposed aggregate ranging from $80-$120/sqm. Pavers would cost around $25-$35/sqm plus the labour cost. I'm also considering liquid limestone which cost $60-$70/sqm (in Perth). Hope that helps. It seems that pavers is a better option? Do you know how much the pavers charge to lay them? I have water tank and air con on one side of the house, could I use pavers instead of concrete to cover the rest of the area? (PS: They have concrete base for air con and water tank already.) Re: Paved / Colored Concrete / Exposed Concrete Driveway? 5Mar 29, 2010 10:04 pm Yes I would say pavers is the cheapest option, however the pavers price I said is for standard pavers, not the fancy ones. Normally the pavers layer charge around $20-$30/sqm depending on the site conditions. I suppose you can still use pavers to cover the rest, however there will be different look (concrete & pavers) - or you can go with grey/silver concrete pavers. Have a look at this brikmakers website, they also have pricing: http://brikmakers.com/pricing.php?type=pavers Re: Paved / Colored Concrete / Exposed Concrete Driveway? 6Mar 29, 2010 10:18 pm I think you would be very lucky to get paving done at that rate Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Paved / Colored Concrete / Exposed Concrete Driveway? 8Mar 31, 2010 9:41 pm Well, I saw this on the internet, they look quite nice and cheap, dont you think? I really want to know how much it normally cost to lay the pavers. I just got a quote of 4k for 50 sqm without pavers? It's like 80 dollars per sqm labour. Re: Paved / Colored Concrete / Exposed Concrete Driveway? 15May 14, 2010 2:45 pm Hmmm... $55 to lay + $30 for the pavers = $85. So far so good but what are they going to be laid on? Shouldn't you have a concrete base for a driveway? Will it be OK in the long run to use crushed rock & sand? Re: Paved / Colored Concrete / Exposed Concrete Driveway? 16May 16, 2010 7:15 am Would always recommend concrete base under pavers. Pavers when laid properly work out to be one of the most expensive options for a driveway due to the high labour content involved Landscape Design & Construction http://cherub.squarespace.com/ Re: Paved / Colored Concrete / Exposed Concrete Driveway? 17May 16, 2010 10:30 am Also interested in pavers, at least on the sides of the house.
