Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Jan 28, 2010 6:33 pm I want to pave my pool surrounds in liquid limestone, but for a test project I am first going to have a crack at a footpath out the front. Local batching plants won't batch up my quantity (about 1m3) so I am going to mix it with a mixer. Footpath will be 80mm thick, about 8m long x 1m wide. Path buts up to dry laid limestone steps both ends. Was intending to have expansion joint in the middle, cut contraction joints at the junction of the straight section to the two ends, which are radius curves. Should I use rubber isolation joint against blockwork stairs as well or uneccesary ? Was not intending to re-inforce, but compact well underneath, DPM & plastic sheeting to cure slab for 3 days. Am also going to "seed" the path with small glass tiles. Does this sound OK ? How can I achieve the "rough", textured surface that is normally finished onto poured limestone ? Brush ? Also, how much crushed limestone will I need to make 1m3 of liquid, and what is a good mix & ratio ? I trust Brighton Lite creme cement is the go ? Thanks Re: Liquid limestone diy 2Jan 28, 2010 11:55 pm There are a few texured finishes..a couple are steel trowel and mag floats they are fun to play with broom finishes are mostly very gritty on the surface, floats and trowels make swirling patterns. Re: Liquid limestone diy 3Feb 01, 2010 7:06 pm Something I like is what they have done at Kings park in the liquid limestone leading up to the tree top walk bridge thingo. They have a small cutting about 8cm long of a Eucalypt branch and gum nut pressed lightly into the wet finish of the concrete and left a wonderful small motif in the corner of the path Looks really good Re: Liquid limestone diy 4Feb 01, 2010 7:11 pm Called leaving a relief pattern. Re: Liquid limestone diy 7Mar 18, 2010 7:37 pm Am about to "pour" a ramp using liquid limestone. The ramp is fully contained by dry laid limestone blockwork, as shown below Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ ramp is aprox 100mm thick, to top of wall as shown. A mate suggested to make up a "damp" mix of 1:4 cement / limestone and tamp firmly into place using 4x2 post. The ramp will have rubber isolation joint on top and sides. (Figure no use on the bottom edge as it will just crush in time ). Use a slightly wetter mix on the surface for finishing. Sub grade is very well compacted bluemetal dust. Does this sound OK (onc, cclarity)? My concerns are - will sufficient compaction occur ? How do I finish it to look rustic ? If I use a wetter, plastic mix how do I get it to not slump down the hill ? cheers Re: Liquid limestone diy 8Mar 18, 2010 7:45 pm Use a steel float edge at 90deg to scratch the surface You will get a few chances to try Enough compaction yep Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Liquid limestone diy 14Mar 22, 2010 5:32 pm Borrowed the mixer, had it all set up ready to go, but couldn't get hold of any crushed limestone so had to flag that job and go onto the next. They have assured me they will have some by next weekend, so will keep you posted. Re: Liquid limestone diy 15Mar 22, 2010 6:16 pm I am REALLY interested to see the result now so make sure you post picks please, and no offence but concrete doesn't usually do all that much for me. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Liquid limestone diy 16Apr 05, 2010 11:16 pm Poured slab over Easter. This was easier than I thought. The liquid limestone was easy to mix and work with. Added some glass tiles to give a splash of colour and provide connection with the back yard which has a concrete path with the same tiles. Also, Jarrah gateposts are up, fixed through pillars with 20mm Stainless rod. Will hang gates off these.
