Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Jan 22, 2010 8:24 am I am doing a DIY rain water tank install, it is a 3000 lts slim line tank, I have marked the area where I am going to put it and am getting ready to make the concrete base for it , i am told it can weigh upto 3 tons when full. I need to find reinforce steel mesh to make the base , but cant find any place that sells it in the size I want, the base would be 3m x 1.5m. I am in Melb west, anybody now any places where i can get it in this size, have already tried bunnings and Robot. thanks Re: DIY Rain water Tank Concrete base 2Jan 22, 2010 8:53 am You are never going to find a 3 X 1.5 meter to buy. You will need to buy 6 X 2.4 and then cut it. If you are who I think you are and live where i think you do. You should just go for a walk around the new house, and sometimes you will find some reo left over on a vacant block where they have recently poured a slab. Also 1.5m sounds too wide, how many tanks are you having??? Re: DIY Rain water Tank Concrete base 3Jan 22, 2010 9:01 am You do realise it doesn't need to be on concrete? Firmly compacted base material will do...I've got a 5000l (round), a 2000l (slim) and 2 x 3000 l (slim) tanks all on compacted road base...and yes 1000 l = 1 tonne. No movement if done properly because of the even distribution of load....it's more likely that your DIY slab will crack, tilt and cause probs. mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: DIY Rain water Tank Concrete base 4Jan 22, 2010 9:13 am Yeh there is that TDL.. Re: DIY Rain water Tank Concrete base 5Jan 24, 2010 10:39 am My 5000l slim tank is on a concrete pad, 3.1mx1.3m, done by the builder. I'm putting another one right next to it and then a shed, so I'm getting one bigger slab poured for the both. I went walking around and have been collecting some bits of reo ****** around the building sites. Can a plumber put a tap on a rain water tank which is full? Tank is similar to one in photo. Cheers. 0 1668 18 90483 From what I know about water tanks (I've been working with a client on them for a few years now) is this - The concrete can last a lifetime if they don't crack for some… 2 10630 |
