Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Dec 29, 2009 12:47 pm We are at a loss to know what to do with the driveway. I really would like a Pebblecrete type thing in stoney colours. Now BEFORE anyone says that's old fashioned, it is quite a good quality and look now. Personally I am not too keen on the stamped concrete although DH likes it. Neither of us really want paving. The only thing left is coloured concrete, but what colour? Black is too hot and a sandstoney colour will be blinding as we face West. So what's left? Any opinions or comments would be appreciated so fire away... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ edit- PS. The front door is timber and the two side gates will be timber. The blue you can see on the front door glass is a protective film. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: What colour should we make the driveway? 3Dec 29, 2009 1:01 pm aaron4erin What colour is your cladding on the top storey? Maybe a colour to match that, it looks quite nice I was just going to suggest this also I think that would work well. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris. Re: What colour should we make the driveway? 4Dec 29, 2009 1:06 pm I'd try to link the driveway colour to the colour of the cladding & add sawcuts to add interest. Remember that the shade, once dry, is lighter than the brochure. sawcuts Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ colour brochures http://www.concretecoloursystems.com.au/downloads/domesticbrochure.pdf http://www.hansoncm.biz/pdfs/Imagecrete/Imagecrete%20Web%20Brochure%20-%20QLD.pdf Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: What colour should we make the driveway? 5Dec 29, 2009 1:21 pm I say similar to this themax, it matches your roof and will hide dirt. I have had to put a link in because of my new computer with Windows 7, nothing is the same .... do they have Windows 7 for Dummies http://yfrog.com/j0christmas19j I am practising something here...may work Re: What colour should we make the driveway? 6Dec 29, 2009 1:30 pm Thanxs everfyone. The cladding is Daplin which is a stoney olivey sort of colour, hard to explain. Mmmm it's easier if you KNOW what you want. I don't so it makes it harder. SuH, what material is that pic that you posted. (why DID you change to Windows 7? how many Windows do you need? ). Is it the Pebblecretey stuff? and where did you get that pic from? I like it because it's different, but I do like the concrete also. Oh no, here I go again... www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: What colour should we make the driveway? 7Dec 29, 2009 1:35 pm It's exposed aggregate and it's my driveway all of our pathways are in this colour against the sandstone walls and light coloured house it looks gorgeous if I do say so myself The mixture is 50% Blue Metal and 50% Basalt with 5kg of black colour per cubic metre does that sound right, I am reading it off the order form and it's kinda small Re: What colour should we make the driveway? 9Dec 29, 2009 2:54 pm Hi The Max, we have a couple of pebblecrete driveways around our build it has made its comeback .....again.....and this home is up for sale so I could get some pics of the real estate website. It looks really nice up close with the colours around it. I think your render colour will keep it from becoming to shiny in the sun but your right it will still be a bright. I love the pebblecrete in the natural colours and we are considering it ourselves. I like the mix of colours it gives off personally. I think the charcoal is also a good way to go though. With your sun shining down it will appear alot lighter. It will be a great compliment to your roof and balance the whole facade evenly. I am an even/balance ocd type so disregard my comments if you need to I think at the end of the day all concrete is quite hot so maybe don't worry about that factor. I think anything will compliment your facade though because it is just lovely. Re: What colour should we make the driveway? 10Dec 29, 2009 3:15 pm Well thank you. My friend has it on her driveway, they have a really modern beachy tropical style home which is lovely. It looks great. That pic is REALLY nice isn't it? I really do like the earthy tones in P/crete but maybe I could get a few greyish tones in there to balance as everyone says. I guess you are right when you say that it all gets hot not matter what type of hard surface it is. Oh well better get to the research on it. Thanks for the pics. I love that big sweeping d/way that Southies posted too. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: What colour should we make the driveway? 11Dec 29, 2009 3:33 pm Is pebblecrete the same as exposed agg or is that something else Anyway, we have exposed agg in a dark mix with some grey and bronze stones through it. We really like it and it doesn't show any dirt or spills etc. Extremely practical for a driveway IMO. I can post a pic if you'd like to see I think any coloured pebble mix would look nice with your house. If you want the exposed agg I would ask the concreter for a brochure so you can chose a mix that will compliment the facade. I couldn't believe that there was something like 40 different mixes to choose from! Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. Yes, but Hels, you're not in Sydney are you? We can't get the Melbourne mixes here . VIC colours are astounding ( Mentone website). For some reason, exposed aggregate is not so popular here. Re: What colour should we make the driveway? 14Dec 29, 2009 4:20 pm Just spoke to a local person and he said that he did not have a brochure but could give us some examples of driveways to look at (uh oh more driveby stalking ) in our local area. He will give us a quote when he gets back from holidays. Yes Hels a pic would stil be nice, thank you. In the mean time I am still open to ideas and other suggestions. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: What colour should we make the driveway? 15Dec 29, 2009 5:45 pm themax, you need to ring the companies in question & they will mail out the brochures. Many posts! I like the aggregate colours/mix; but maybe the concrete part is a little light - a couple of shades darker/browner there and it would accent your render nicely. But, as always, bleeping hard to tell from sample shots; I'd just go the non-aggregate part in a bit darker tone, personally. I think the aggregate should be a highlight, rather than the main colour. Lol, don't even know if I'm using the correct terminology to separate the rocks from the concrete bits!
