Good work Re: Those old tired or faded cobbles 4Dec 19, 2009 5:57 pm HI Ash Yeah without a doubt prep is the most important stage when using a colour stain, gotta get rid of that impacted sediment or dirt as we call it A real good waterblast or Pressure clean as you called it I always seal the stain due to the UV damage we get here in NZ and Aussie, that way im only replacing a sealer for about $7 bucks a square every couple of years Not bad considering to replace cobbles just because that lack colour costs around 110 a sqm not to mention removal etc We would charge around $ 35 m2 including prep and sealing Now Mum wants the rest done over xmas, so much for holidays Have also done a stunning stamped drive in Nerang Re: Those old tired or faded cobbles 5Dec 19, 2009 6:14 pm Wow Jason, that looks fantastic How long did it take you to do that? www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Those old tired or faded cobbles 6Dec 19, 2009 6:45 pm Cool. Looks like I got a job to do next month. Flamed granite tiles in a semi-outdoor area that need a good clean and then resealing. I will be using a good alkaline cleaner, scrubbing with a tynex rotary brush, then pressure cleaning with a spray and capture system to recover waste water, drying off, then applying two coats of a solvent penetrating sealer. Umm not too long, a job of that size will take about 3 hours start to finish Can be walked on after 3 hours Got to resand it then use my co-lock sealer over the top, Guess what im doing boxing day lol Re: Those old tired or faded cobbles 8Dec 20, 2009 8:34 am royalblue Cool. Ash. Hi Ash Im interested in your waste water recovery system , who ? how ? brand ? and i will tell you why We do a lot a stamped concrete re colour and one of the products we use to remove the existing sealer is my Easy strip eco friendly coatings remover, This stuff is insane i can pull off M20 poly in 15 minutes and most paints in less than five Issue is capturing the waste water, although the stripper is bio degradable the remains of sealers in the water is not I need a better means of capture Jas Re: Those old tired or faded cobbles 9Dec 20, 2009 9:01 pm Hey Jas, I sent you a PM with some very interesting gear. I have heard of some soy based strippers on the market. Is that what you use? Sound very good! Some sealers and poly's especially can be a real bugger to get off. I don't do a lot of that work tho, so haven't tried them myself. Ash. Re: Those old tired or faded cobbles 10Dec 20, 2009 9:25 pm HI Ash
Was looking into Soy based strippers / stains about 2-3 years ago but found out some interesting stuff Interesting enough for me to look at Citrus instead Thanks for your help with the recovery system, will look into it further Re: Those old tired or faded cobbles 12Dec 21, 2009 3:47 pm Can you share the details of the stripper your using? I've got loads of weatherboard to strip soon and I'm experimenting with different methods, currently building an infrared stripper as they seem to be quite effective. Have tried citrus strip, but it only seems to lift one layer at the time.... Maybe this should be in the painting section.
