Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Jun 08, 2009 1:55 pm Hi Guys Just had a guy come out to quote us for an exposed aggregate driveway and pathways for our new house. He has written on the quote 100mm concrete, F62 Mesh with a base of crushed rock. I know a few people on here have upgraded the mesh to F72. Is this necessary? The guy didn't mention anything to us about it. I have just googled and it says for driveways the recommended base is 100mm with F62 mesh for cars, but not for trucks. We have a V8 commodore and a Ford Territory (4x4) I wouldn't classify either of these as trucks, but I'm wondering if I should upgrade the mesh to a higher grade just to be on the safe side? My karma ran over your dogma Re: Driveway suitability 3Jun 08, 2009 9:22 pm I've always used F72 on driveways, and F62 everywhere else. To be even surer you could specify 125mm for the driveway if you have clay in your area. A little more engineering involved, without going overboard isn't bad. Make sure they put in adequate expansion joints and sawcuts in too Re: Driveway suitability 4Jun 08, 2009 9:28 pm Could go the heavier gear, about 10 bucks a sheet extra Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Driveway suitability 5Jun 26, 2009 11:07 pm They should be happy to upgrade the steel to F72 for an extra $1.50 a meter. Personally I would ask for F82 for around $3-4 extra. You never know one day you may be having a truck full of concrete drive up your driveway. To my understanding early saw cuts are to control shrinkage cracks, so doing them now would be pointless. Control joints may reduce ugly cracking during periods of soil… 3 9799 Hi all I need a guidance on how far I need to space expansion joints in the concrete driveway and its type (keyway/foam.) Contraction joints are at 3m max for a 125 slab. Thanks 0 10892 |
