Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Apr 17, 2007 1:14 pm I just discovered Acid Stained Concrete.. Well.. not 'discovered' it, but I did find it online for the first time last night.
Wow.. What a beautiful effect. http://concrete-floor-stains.com/ http://www.mimcon.com/newimages/flaming%20floor.jpg http://overlaymichigan.com/images/wineroom%20floor.jpg That top link suggests that it can be a DIY job. As I am planning to be an owner builder, i may very well have a crack at it. Re: Acid Stained Concrete 2Apr 23, 2007 5:18 pm We're going to be staining and sealing our floors in the hallway/lounge/dining/kitchen areas of our home.
We wont be going for the "acid" stain a few friends have told me it can get very messy - not to mention dangerous. At this stage we'll be using the products from: http://www.crommelin.com.au/listPro.php?id=24 Available from Bunnings. The "Concrete Floor Sealer" can be tinted with their range of stains. Apparently you just apply the sealer with a brush or mop wait 30 mins then repeat. (see full instructions here: http://www.crommelin.com.au/images/newP ... %20CFS.pdf) Looking forward to having a crack myself! Re: Acid Stained Concrete 3May 18, 2007 7:26 pm Hi Guys,
Acid staining is best left with some body that knows what they are doing.....i have just completed a shop floor (100m2) of 'knockdown-slate' , Antique Tan 'acid-stain', with a black waterbase 'ultra-stone' stain...a lot of work, masking walls, neutralising the acid, then wet vacuaming up the residue! Then you have to seal this product....Epoxys, ENHANCE the colour more than cheap sealers....we give 2 coats of water based epoxy , 2 coats of water based polyurethane.....and then 4 coats of liquid polish . I bet nobody has mentioned the matinence side to all these floors?..ALL FLOORSYSTEMS, be they 'polish concrete', timber flooring, seamless epoxy flooring, etc.....must be maintained properly , eg sweep daily, mop at least once a week with a good low ph cleaner ( Versadet). Talk to a EXPERT...remember that if you attempt to do this yourself, at your own house...and you make a botch of it......you have to look at it , EVERY DAY!.......hmmmm....and it will hurt your hip pocket as well ![]() Good luck! Economical too @ $45 US per gallon, which covers 37 - 55sqm. Would expect to pay maybe $80 - $100 aus for that I guess, don't know where to get it..................... http://www.azobuild.com/news.asp?newsID=2154 http://www.ecosafetyproducts.com/SoyCre ... 1000-1.htm Apparently a more predictable finish, completely non toxic and easy for a DIY dork like me ![]() Where you get it in Oz though???? Re: Acid Stained Concrete 5Jul 26, 2007 2:03 pm We just stained and sealed the concrete ourselves (not with acid - water based), see thread here:
https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=2351 As Adam said though, don't do acid staining yourself, get a pro to do that one. You shouldn't be playing around with acid if you don't know what you're doing ![]() Re: Acid Stained Concrete 6Jul 26, 2007 3:49 pm there is a new wave of eco friendly stain available for the same purpose.

But just a quick question does the prep work (scrubing a new slab) make the slab ruff and if so does the final poly coating smooth it all out? Also what happens if the slab cracks after does it stand out like the old dogs poverbials? We used a PGH brick for our new build in NSW. It has a slurried face & we selected off white mortar.
