Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 May 05, 2009 7:08 pm We are having our drive poured on the weekend. It is a normal drive with a slight slope up to the garage from the road. Across the width of the drive it will be completely flat and level. We then have about 2.2 mt from the garage to the fence and was going to extend the drive width by this and have a hard stand along the side of the garage to the fence for a trailer or something. But....... The concreter pointed out today that there is a fall from the garage down to the fence as you go up further from the road so if we concreted this area it would form a corkscrew effect and the hard stand would have a slope. The only other way is if we came in from the fence and had a gap or garden bed about 30cms wide from the edge of the drive to the fence. We could make a garden bed with this but you would see the depth of the exposed edge of the concrete, but it would make the hard stand level. What do you guys think would look best bearing in mind once we have gone past the building line the next door neighbours garden would be butting up to whatever we do. I think DH is leaning towards the corkscrew driveway. So do I have a sloping side access or build it up higher than the fence and if I do that do I go right up to the fence or make a 30 cm garden bed or something I think it would come about 6 inches up the fence. Re: Corkscrew Driveway 4May 09, 2009 11:10 am pour the concrete flat and on the boundary edge get the concretor to pour a beam (to create a retaining wall as such) at the same time as main area the vertical face of beam will be able to be seen so get the concretor to exposs this face as well if you get exposed agg. or if coloured conc. etc get a finish face put on it Da Vinci Outdoor Living Architectural landscaping http://www.davincioutdoor.com Re: Corkscrew Driveway 5May 12, 2009 11:24 pm yeah, get it leveled. You can work the rest out over the years ahead. To my understanding early saw cuts are to control shrinkage cracks, so doing them now would be pointless. Control joints may reduce ugly cracking during periods of soil… 3 9862 Hi all I need a guidance on how far I need to space expansion joints in the concrete driveway and its type (keyway/foam.) Contraction joints are at 3m max for a 125 slab. Thanks 0 10940 |
