Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 May 02, 2009 6:51 pm Hi All, This is really just a bit of a contribution and a plug. I had a new driveway, pergola and shed slab done recently by Davinci Outdoor (who is on the forum). The driveway is 'Tambo' mix which is one of the more popular mixes from Mentone Pre-mix. The pergola was something I came up with as an alternative to having the roofline extended which is an option through the builder. It doesn't have a roof as the intention was for asthetics as all the family areas in the house look onto the alfresco and future BBQ area. I'd rate Davinci as one of the best tradesmen I've used in the past year as I'm very happy with the work. The best part is I can now park in the garage and get down the driveway without scraping. Love the pergola, we'll be adding something similar off our alfresco. I think you've done a fantastic job with the front yard area considering the challenges of the block. Well done! I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: My new exposed aggregate driveway & Pergola 3May 02, 2009 7:03 pm Hey Joles, thanks a bunch. The backyard will be the hardest part.. may be a while before that happens. As it was the alfresco concrete needed to have piers down to the natural ground level and upgraded reinforcing due to the fill. Flat blocks are definetly worth paying extra for. Mozzie, did you get anything to your alfresco floor at all with the build? Or was it just dirt? We're also building on fall and our alfresco will be on fill as well. I've added concrete to our alfresco in our contract for a reasonably good cost. Sounds like it may have been a good move. Slopes can be challenging, but I think ultimately you will have a beatuifully textured and layered landscape. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: My new exposed aggregate driveway & Pergola 6May 02, 2009 8:35 pm It was just dirt so it needed roadbase and piers before concreting. I'm not sure what PD charge but to have a custom made pergola in brick with concrete slab does actually add up to quite a bit so although their price for an extended alfresco probably seems alot, the alternatives aren't cheap either. I didn't even ask about it but you'd think it would be very easy for them to simply include the alfresco with the rest of the slab. Re: My new exposed aggregate driveway & Pergola 7May 04, 2009 1:46 pm Looks absolutely fantastic, Mozzie - love the pergola! We asked about having the Al Fresco concreted as part of the slab (ie we were prepared to pay!) and PD flatly refused - they just said "NO, we don't do that) Now, you get the Al Fresco, and the front entrance, I think, included in the slab..... It will show it on them. Just to give you an idea, as we have an M class slab, we added the alfresco and portico concrete... around 30sqm all up for around 2k. I'm thinking it's not included.. as it's nowhere in our contracts or plans.. but it was nice to dream for just a little while. We didn't include the extra slab as we'll be getting decking to the alfresco and we'll get the driveway extended to the portico.
